Nestled in the heart of La Mesa, California, Antica Trattoria promises an authentic Italian dining experience, and it certainly delivers. My girlfriend and I embarked on a culinary journey last night, and we were swept away by the charm and flavors this gem had to offer. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted warmly by the friendly and attentive server, setting the tone for an evening of exceptional service. Their knowledge of the menu was impeccable, guiding us through the tantalizing array of options. To kickstart our culinary adventure, we indulged in the calamari fritti, a crispy and succulent appetizer that left our taste buds dancing with delight. For the main course, I opted for the rack of lamb, while my girlfriend savored the Chilean Sea Bass. Each dish was a masterpiece, meticulously prepared with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. To complement our meal, we sipped on a delightful extra dry prosecco recommended by our server. Its effervescence perfectly complemented the rich flavors of our dishes, elevating the dining experience to new heights. While our experience was nearly flawless, there was a slight hiccup when my main course took a bit longer due to a mix-up with the order. However, the attentive staff swiftly rectified the mistake, ensuring that our dining experience remained nothing short of exceptional. In conclusion, Antica Trattoria embodies the essence of fine Italian dining with its delectable cuisine, charming ambiance, and impeccable service. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving an unforgettable meal, a visit to Antica Trattoria promises an enchanting culinary experience that will leave you longing for more.

I ate here for the first time recently, and was absolutely delighted by the experience. The decor is warm and inviting, the service was a perfect mix of friendliness, attentiveness, and helpfulness, and the food! Oh, the food. The bruschetta appetizer was quite literally the best I have ever had... a fresh and flavorful treat for the palate that nearly stole the the show for everyone at our table. The burrata (a special app that day) was fresh, creamy, and perfectly paired with delicious heirloom tomatoes. For entrees, we ordered the fettuccine with smoked salmon and shrimp, the papardelle with crispy brussel sprouts and shrimp (very graciously substituted for the sausage), rack of lamb, and veal piccata. While the breathtaking bruschetta set a bar so high that the entrees felt a slightly subdued by comparison (seriously, it was that good), everyone at the table was very pleased with what they ordered. A moist, tender, espresso-forward tiramisu - lady fingers well saturated but not at all soggy, and just the right amount of sweetness - capped off the meal (with a candle for my grandmother-in-law's birthday), and we ended up ordering and demolishing a second. The prices are at the upper end of the range you might imagine (think $19 to $22 for most entrees), but everyone at our table thought it was well worth it. Without a doubt, this is now my favorite Italian restaurant in all of San Diego, and I hope to visit many more times!

Can one $3 order of supposed fresh baked bread lose you a couple of Stars? In my case yes! We went with most of the recommended items that Levi brought up. He was very convincing about his suggested recommendations. And they were great.....but I won't really talk about them....instead I want to focus on the first order of bread. The softest, warmest, earthiest tasting bread ever. We loved it so much that we ordered another one. We're not piggies! The bread order is small. Like a 6" sub size. The 2nd bread was terrible. It was like a rock. We tried to find a soft spot and even tried soaking it in the olive oil or sauce that came with our dishes but no luck. We disected it and kept looking for the soft spot but nope! When Levi (who was great by the way) asked "How was everything?" I was honest and explained that everything was fantastic! But that the 2nd bread was terrible. His answer to us was that he was going to let the baker in charge know about it. Well that just doesn't cut it. I got to thinking and the veal parmiggiana was soggy.

I guess the good reviews didn't have the lasagna, my son and husband had no complaints about their plates, because it was not lasagna. I DID NOT EAT THE LASAGNA it made me ill there was no meat sauce or cheese just noodles and a little sauce. here is the manager's response. I suggest that you be honest First you've never been to the restaurant According to my waiter your mom was treated as we treat all our customers that is excellent Third your mom ate all the lasagna without saying a word, the only comment she made after she finished the lasagna did not have enough meat sauce I do not understand how you can be so cowardly to say that the lasagna was terrible without ever having been in my restaurant Have a wonderful day Ginny I want you to know your mom sent me an Email immediately after going out of my restaurant I cordially I told her to call me giving her my phone number I do not understand your need to comment on fb an untruth We care a lot for our customers I am very disturbed by your coment After talking with my waiter came to the conclusion 1you ate the lasagna 2 when a customer in my restaurant is not satisfied with a dish we change it 3 after you have eaten everything and after the discount 3 people have paid $23 and zero tip you continues to complain My conclusion !!!! You are ridiculous threaten me you want to post on fb that you've had a bad experience you know what your bad experience you know what your problem is that you're chip Make yourself a favor stay at home do not go out to eat because Restaurants like mine does not need people like you Take this as a compliment Enjoy your LIFE I normally tip 20% but when the waiter ignores your table and you call him over to the table with a complaint and he ignores you I guess he didn't earn his tip Trattoria Tiramisu is an excellent italian...

UPDATE* SHORTLY AFTER POSTING THIS HONEST REVIEW, I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING BACK TO BACK CALLS FROM A PRIVATE NUMBER. THE RESTAURANT HAS MY NUMBER BC I MADE THE RESERVATION. IM NOT STUPID. I KNOW THE OWNER IS HARRASSING ME.

IF YOU WANT THIS REVIEW TAKEN DOWN THEN STOP CALLING ME !!!!

This was my first time here I will say the only pleasant thing about my visit here was the hostess. Young blonde girl-forgot to get her name. She was friendly and greeted us with a smile. My husband & I arrived about 30 mins sooner than our reservation so we got a drink at the bar. What seemed like the owner-italian guy wearing a leather jacket, made our drinks & they were very good. About 10 mins into our drinks and the man is replaced with a lady. She wasn't very pleasant and closed our tab as soon as she knew we weren't going to be eating food at the bar.

The restaurant was getting busier and I see the man in the leather jacket criticizing the hostess in the MIDDLE OF THE SEATING!!! so UNPROFESSIONAL HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

It was almost time for us to be seated at our table. We requested the outside patio due to the small & crowded restaurant inside. I was halfway thru my drink when I decided to check in with the hostess to see if we could now be seated outside. However, I was not able to approach her for a few mins bc the leather jacket guy was what only seemed to be criticizing her based on his facial expressions and hand gestures and her sad look on her face. AGAIN, this is the dinner rush & there are ppl still coming in to be seated

The poor girl I felt bad for her so I checked on her and she explained that she is used to it

The food.....the pics online look great, and thats it. It was bland. There were very few veggies and the brussel sprouts were hard and not edible or seasoned. I got the brusato.

I was disappointed. I will not be returning here or recommending this restaurant. It is chaotic, the owner is rude to his staff and the food...

Arrived at about 4:45 on Saturday night with my wife. The resturate had about 3 tables out of 14 occupied. My wife asked for a table and the hostess said there was only bar space available. We left and as we left the hostess went to the barkeep and he laughed out loud. My wife was furious and went inside to ask what was so funny??? They said nothing the children running this place. Never coming back... I wish this resturante rots and burns and it will with teenagers running the place and turning big money people like my wife and I away. Laugh at us - WE LAUGH AT YOU! TEENAGERS turning away big money clients . Thats really stupid business! This resturante is run by children.

Update owner called my wife and said they actually have 3 tables allocated for walk ins. Hostess was unaware of this somehome. They offered to comp us a full meal and add in wine to take down our honest review. Not doing that sorry... Not going to cover up for kids trashing people who just want to enjoy a night out. He wanted is to be be cool with teenagers being involved. Blah blah. There are teenagers and then there is just straight up rudeness there is a HUGE difference. When I was a teenager I would never ever laugh at customers and would do everything possible to make service geat. I never support business that trash customers trying to get a meal this place sucks!

In addition to this the owner age shamed my wife - said you sound like you are very old to my wife! He said you guys need to relax.

We are not relaxing, we are not taking free meals to take down the review, and we ARE NEVER COMING BACK to another idiot teenager messing up our date night!

No we are going to places like Brigantine in La Mesa that always deliver. We aren't coming back to your...
