Sombrero Mexican Food — Restaurant in La Mesa

I didn't even get a chance to order! Let me explain... 👉⁉️💥 Update: I tried to reach out to the Sombrero email in the reply to this review and I haven't heard back at all. They act like they care but they really don't it seems , that's unfortunate. 😱

It's early afternoon on a Sunday, a few people are in the dining room and a lot of people in the drive thru and the phone is also ringing. There's 1 worker up in the front while I see at least 5 workers in the back. The cooks in the back are placing orders on the counter and ringing their ready bell multiple times for the same order, while the guy in the front is taking orders from drive thru and answering the phone at the same time.

I stood there for 5 minutes watching the craziness. Nobody had yet acknowledged that I was even there ready to order.

One of the dine-in customers was also standing next to me and it looked like he had been there for a while. When his order finally came out it was apparently wrong because the customer let the worker know it was supposed to be something else.

When the worker in the front told the guys in the back about the order more craziness started to occur when what seemed to be a shift leader wearing a headset came out and got involved in the conversation. The voice level then rose and the customer kept having to defend himself. It was at this time I felt that it would take a serious amount of time for me to finally order and thensome if my order was wrong. Which I've had experience with many times.

Even though I had spent 10 minutes driving there (one way) I knew for sure I would be better off going to another taco shop close by.

I couldn't remember if I liked or disliked this place, but they one of the few spots opened early on Saturday morning and I figured it's hard to mess up Taco Shop food. I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito and an horchata via drive thru. The service was friendly and prompt. This review is for the food. The tortilla was a thicker one and had burn spots, so there was too much bitterness and flour as I ate my burrito. Also, the breakfast burrito had quartered red skinned potatoes that did not taste seasoned, but rather undercooked. So both the flavor and texture were disappointing. The burrito overall needed salt because despite the saltiness from the bacon, it was not enough to compensate for the potato. The scrambled eggs were cooked nicely. I recommend using some tater tots in lieu of the red skin potatoes. I also wish I had ordered sour cream to add some richness or moisture. The shredded cheese was not melted despite the heat and that contributed to the lackluster. The horchata was only cold on top where the ice was. It got me thinking if I should be worried that the milk based horchata was like warm, but I assume it was made with a base. I would be willing to give it another try in the future, but with...

I live nearby and thought, why not give it a try, since it has a drive thru and good reviews here. Ordered a california burrito and a carne asada quesadilla.

The fact that the base california burrito doesn't come with guacamole and sour cream is absurd. I added sour cream, but it was still somehow very dry. The cheese wasn't melted inside at all. Temperature was uneven throughout.

The quesadilla was incredibly stingy on the cheese, which is naturally undesirable for a quesadilla. Carne asada in this was also dry but also somehow greasy enough to leave a small collection of grease in the corner of the to go box.

Hot sauce is made daily in store, according to the packaging, but also comes in rippable packets like Taco Bell instead of condiment cups like most mexican places. This makes setting them down cleanly difficult for food items where you only want to put a little on at a time, like a burrito, and impossible to dip for other food items.

Overall, not worth the money, and the convince of the drove thru does not make up for it. This specific location is very close to other, better options for...
