West Coast Pilates Centre — Local services in La Mesa

This is an excellent studio tucked away in a small strip mall in La Mesa. There is parking lot and street parking available, it’s right off the 8 FWY off of Fletcher Pkwy, and you can see that sanitation of all equipment is a top priority. The studio is clean and refreshing, the teachers have been exceptional, and the overall vibe of the studio is welcoming and encouraging! Whether you are looking for pilates specifically or just wanting to try a new kind of body workout/movement class, I highly recommend this studio.

Everyone can benefit from the reformer machines; young, old, post injury, physically fit or not, etc. I truly appreciate the variety of classes available. Definitely begin with an “Enlighten” and/or “Extend” class. Even if you’re fit and think you’re ready to jump into an intermediate class, I recommend starting with a slower paced class like these to get used to the awesome machines and the movements involved. Talk about isolating muscle groups! You will be surprised how your body feels afterward. We did some hip work this last class that really woke up some hip areas I’ve been trying to stretch out! I had an extremely disappointing experience at this studio today. I have never encountered a more condescending and unhelpful fitness instructor. In fact, the students were more helpful than the instructor. What’s worse is that when my cousin’s ball dropped and she struggled to get the ball back, the teacher didn’t help at all and just repeated instructions sternly to take off the straps before getting the ball back. However, when another student dropped her ball, the teacher quickly walked over to pick up the ball for her. It felt like the instructor was selectively biased against us as the new students.

I will also add that although we were beginners, the class we attended was “intermediate/all level class”. Nowhere in the class description does it say that this is not for first timers. We also followed instructions to come early to introduce ourselves to the teacher as new students, as written in the course description.

Again, I appreciate the help from the students, but I will absolutely avoid this studio moving forward because of how unwelcome the instructor’s...

I freaking LOVE this place! Having tried 2 studios prior and at the glowing referral from a colleague (now friend!), I gave West Coast Pilates Centre a go. That was 14 months ago and I couldn't be more pleased. All the instructors are "pilates passionate" and all are warm, welcoming, fun and knowledgeable. I have newfound strength, agility and overall core power that no other workout has provided, not to mention relief (finally) from chronic lower back issues. I also have a newfound appreciation for my body and movement. I've taken classes from all instructors and each brings unique and challenging teaching styles that keep you on your toes. It never gets boring! Heather, the owner is magnificent and it's obvious that her studio is clearly a matter of the heart, given how invested she is in every client. The studio is located conveniently to freeway access, has plenty of parking, excellent hours and is well-equipped and extremely clean.
