Los Pinos Taco Shop — Restaurant in La Mesa

This place is so dang good (grew up in San Diego so easy to tell good from bad Mexican food) and we live close so order often.

When we have gone and/or called in previously, the same guy has always been there/picked up the phone, and he's always been super helpful and friendly. We gave glowing reviews to a family member who just moved here and ordered for pick up this past week.

The woman on the phone (who has been answering/there recently) told us it would be ready in 15 minutes. We showed up 15 minutes later. Ended up waiting another 20 (so was told 15 minutes, ended up being 35). The entire time we were there, the woman on the phone was telling everyone they could pick up in 15 minutes which was clearly far from accurate as all the orders were already way behind. No apologies at all either once the food was ready for being OVER double the time quoted. To clarify, we have ZERO issue if food is going to take 35 (or whatever amount of time) minutes to make because things get busy and everyone understands, but say that. Don't quote 15 minutes if you know that is not even close to doable.

1st time here ordered the California burrito tried all 3 hot sauces really liked the green which resembled a smooth guacamole sauce & the orang hot sauce the darker red sauce was good but too spicy for me as I'm not suppose to have spicy. Burrito was 1 of the best I've tasted in a long time I highly recommend. I used to live close to here years ago but never tried till now. Wanted a burrito but wasn't sure which one, I usually get either carne asada or California. There were some burrito specials but maybe next time. Prices are high but it's worth it. Would of liked some recommendations when I wasn't sure but he didn't know my preferences nor did he ask so stuck with what I knew. He was friendly & social to customers. My favorite spot! Hidden Gem! I work nearby and was recommended this place from a client of mine, I always get the Carne Asada, whether it’s tacos, burritos or quesadillas. Portions are large! Place is clean and the people running it are always so nice! I tend to wait outside or in my car and they always pop out to let me know it’s ready, so polite and give you as much sauce as you like! The hibiscus tea is amazing! They were also doing a free burrito to the first customers of the day today! I got 2 burritos for under $14. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place!
