Petrinos Greek Restaurant — Restaurant in La Mesa

I am editing my review and have changed the overall rating. Everything above the line is the new review and below the line of asterisks is the old review. I had been going to this place many many times. I went again today and had not been in a few months. I ordered the chicken salad. It was very different from the other times that I had had it. Something about the taste was not quite the same. There used to be a perfect balance od tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese and lettuce but this salad had too many tomatoes, which overwhelmed the entire flavor of the salad. It might be because the owner was away, but I can't be certain. This could be a one-time thing. I have loved this place in the past and am willing to try it again.

The people who own this restaurant are super nice. You get A LOT of food if you order the chicken kabob plate for example. The salad is a great size and so delicious. The vegetables on it are always really fresh and I never need dressing on it. Their yellow rice is VERY good too.

I recommend the Greek Chicken plate, the Chicken Kabob plate and my all-time favorite, which is the chicken salad. The chicken shawarma that comes on the salad is soo good and this plate has so much food that I can never finish it in...

Update: they were doing great for a while. Way better than the place adding the corner. I went in a little than usual and I think I was served the last fixings. All my food was watered down and warm. I ordered inside and waited 20 mins for my food. I get home and my soup" is lentil flavored broth; my sandwich is soft from the sauce; tzatziki sauce was clearly frozen from the cottage cheese like consistency. Is rather be told they're out of food instead of being baited and switched. Take a chance of you're hungry. You might get great food or slop. . .

The food here is always great and the service has always been efficient. Last night, I had the worst experience. When my order was taken I was told it would be about 10 mins. My order wouldn't be ready for 27 mins AND 5 other customers received their orders before me, whom ordered and arrived after me. I had a small order of a sandwich and fries. I waited because this place has always been good to me and everyone had always been friendly. Last night just left a bad taste in my mouth. Literally. After the long wait, I get home to open a box of stale tasting,cold fries and a soggy pita. I will now keep an eye out for the staff that I am used to seeing before...

Petrinos offers very pricey gyro plates, but the food is satisfying for comfort food like this. Petrino's offers no parking for dine in, all of their reserved spaces are 15 min only. Their punchcard incentive is a total joke, and they will find a million excuses to NOT honor your free plate with 7 purchases. The most recent example of this is when I went with two different punch cards one with 5 punches, the other with 2 (I had forgotten my card 2 times), and when I tried to combine them, they would not honor it, even though I made 7 purchases totaling over 100 dollars. The manager was indifferent and inflexible, and informed me he did not mind at all losing a customer, so here we are. Dishonestly, greed, and false advertising will be the demise of this place. Too bad because their food is ok, but not anything special. I'll be going to vine ripe for their gyros now, which are better, and I'll be writing them a good review soon.
