The RAD House — Restaurant in La Plata

Four stars only because of a minor mistake. WILL VISIT AND EAT AGAIN FOR SURE.

Service was great. Staff was professional and engaged with the patrons. Place is clean to a T. Well maintained.

Atmosphere. Great. Simple. Walls could use a few aesthetics to really make it pop. Modern look with complimentary music taste to match the environment.

We tried four menu items to see what they were about. Overall great bar food and aligns with the theme of the establishment well.

3.a. Plating. Great job with presentation of bar food items. Very creative. Let your cooks play around! Sustain this!

3.b. Taste. Food was great. Notable is the flatbreads. Highly recommend. Wings were cooked perfectly and the flavor profile was on point. Shrimp tacos. Okay at best. Shrimp was cooked well but lacked flavor other than salty. I was a sceptic when it comes to flour tortillas vice corn. They were crispy and held together. Would eat again. Jalapeño Crema. Boring. Recommend experimenting to get the flavor profile to be more robust. Look to achieve hints of garlic, lime, and Jalapeño.

All in all great place with a great selections of food and craft beers. Their signature drinks are pretty good though we didn’t have enough of them to test consistency from the bar staff.

Finally a spot in La Plata where you can get awesome drinks and food from people who really know what they are doing. Both of the bartenders took turns showing off their expertise and love for their craft, telling me all about the drinks they were making and the ingredients they were using. I’ve visited many of the highest rated bars on the east coast and my experience here was seriously up there at the top, which is so refreshing to have right here in town. The food was surprisingly great for a small bar, I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular ordering the chicken wings but they were seriously some of the best I’ve had in a long time. They make their buffalo sauce and their ranch dressing in house and you can definitely taste the difference in freshness and quality. The Rad House is such a nice change of pace from the local chain restaurants and bars in every way. Overall, the biggest difference maker was the freshness and quality of ingredients, both in the drinks and the food. The signature cocktails were creative and well balanced, and they nailed the classics like a whiskey sour and espresso martini. The bartenders also made customized drinks based on personal preferences (like you’d expect from a nice place in DC), so you’re not limited to the menu or pre-mixed bottles. The food was excellent and clearly made to order- everything was well seasoned and flavorful without being drenched in oil. Service was prompt and friendly but still laid-back.
