Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen {La Porte} — Restaurant in La Porte

I've been here 4 times now and let me just say, this is my favorite restaurant and I dont even like Mexican food usually.

My favorite dish is the carne guisada- perfection in a bowl! After eating that dish here on dec 15th last year, I ordered it at a few different restaurants and they all taste like dog food in comparison to the rich, flavorful meal I am ALWAYS served here. The meat beautifully dissolves in your mouth releasing all of the marinated flavors that the chefs took care to create.

Today my bf and I came in and as always the chips are fresh, crispy, and come with our favorite sauces. Which, again, we've had elsewhere but are always best here. The texture, consistency, and flavor of the simple red and green sauces keep us eating way more chips than we should Haha!

The service is also always top notch. Taylor M is sooo brilliant. She helped me order exactly what I wanted including mentioning I could substitute beans for veggies, which I am so glad I did because holy moly they're amazing and just as flavorful as the meat. She was quick to make my trash is silently disappear sometimes to the point that I dont even notice when she remove my straw wrappers or napkins- its just suddenly clean! The staff is so kind, even going above and beyond the cater to my request for a seat in a warmer section of the restaurant as well. (We came in at 530PM on Thursday the 28th so whoever was working host- thank you!)

I have eaten at a few restaurants across Texas serving similar food, but I am always thinking of Gringos in the back of my mind. Absolutely superb dining experiences EVERY time I come here. Thank you for being the best...

We came here to eat for dinner one night while on vacation. Although a little disappointed they didn't have white queso and the yellow queso was just ok the rest of the food was very very good!!!!!! I recommend getting the three amigos plus pepe enchiladas with all of them having just the amazon sauce on them!!! That amazon sauce is in the top 3 sauces I have ever tasted. I would drink it if I could. So basically get whatever you want, burrito, enchilada, chimichanga, just make sure to have them put the amazon sauce on it!!! The chimichanga is really good. And the fajitas are really good, the meat is flavored and cooked really well, extremely tender. Oh oh oh. And the freaking pico is amazing!!! Have not had this good of pico in a long time. Did I mention how good the amazon sauce and pico is? Lol. The refried beans are The best I have ever tasted with the best flavor. They were extremely busy even at 8:00 at night so the wait time was high, and the wait time for our food was even higher. That wasn't really a big deal though, considering we saw how busy they were. The server was very accommodating and nice. The drink we got which was a frozen mango margarita was way too strong. Normally I would say the stronger the better but she could have just brought straight shots of tequila. There was absolutely no mango flavor at all which I was really looking for a nice refreshing sweet drink so that was kind of a bummer. All in all I absolutely recommend this...

The food was fantastic. Service at 1st was rocky but it wasn't the servers fault, just busy and perhaps needed more servers. Gary was a great kid and certainly made up for it. It's not always the servers fault when there are issues so I reminded him to breathe and he immediately took ownership and fixed what we needed. The drink, well the shot of Makers Mark was watered down and showing the manager the color from their bottle compared to what we were poured it was quite obvious. Just be sure that the bartender makes your drinks right Robert, again fantastic in seeing the difference and he immediately took care of it.

We got fajitas and tilapia...EXCELLENT!!! I don't like the fact that they wrap your tortillas in the same napkins people use to wipe their hands, washed even, I think it's gross. Tortillas either need the warmer or use different towels to wrap them in, example, use white ones for tortilla use only ...for tortillas, not anything else. We didn't eat the tortillas bc of that. The guacamole salad was fresh and the Chicharróns were so good, I bought some to come home with.

Overall we will continue to go there. We always have a nice time while we're there and the atmosphere is pleasant for our Friday night date nights.
