This is a long due review. Well for starters, Mi Cocina is nice, open, clean, has a friendly vibes and staff. I first tried their food in mid June and was impressed by the the Carne asada plate, the food was delicious and portions were nice. I tried a michelada and had to order a second due to how well prepared they are. Prior to leaving I ordered some nachos to go, this is where things went south, chips were stale, food was mediocre at best. The asada looked like ground beef and had a weird flavor about it like not bad but different and not good. Fast forward a few months and I decided to try it out again a few days ago, I ordered a El Jefe Burrito with asada as my protein of choice, I decided to get a large horchata with my order, somehow my total came up to $19 and change which is insane but whatever I forked it up. I walked across the street to the university, sat down and started eating. My burrito almost fell apart as soon as I picked it up leading me to believe this was not going to be a happy experience, the burrito was bland, asada was finely chopped once again resembling ground beef, flavor was not good at all, the ratio of beans and rice to asada was not appetizing. If I was starving and I had to choose between a pre-made sandwich and food at mi cocina, I'd go for that pre-made sandwich. Check out the roll on that...
Read moreWith a recommendation from a family member, this was our first time here since they opened in April of 2020. What a great find. Family-owned and operated with pride.
We were quickly seated and our waitress, Lily, was perfect. Quick with a greeting and a bowl of chips and wonderful "homemade" salsa. For us, usually, if the salsa is above average or better the food will follow on the same high note of quality and taste. We were not disappointed!
Lily continued her great service and got our drink orders quickly. They recently got their beer-wine license and have a good selection of Mexican and domestic beers.
They have a good selection of traditional Mexican favorites as well as very authentic home-cooked items. A few questions about the items and Lily was very accurate in her description of the food. The dinner meals would be like if you were invited into their homes and sat with the family to eat. The meals arrived in a timely fashion, piping hot, well-plated, and full of flavor and textures.
I saw some of the previous reviews saying this and that were not perfect. As some noted, their visit was when they first opened. Whatever issues were noted, they have certainly overcome them.
Their pricing was very good, and the food was of high quality.
They are Covid rules compliant.
We will be back...
Read moreWe checked out their brand new "lonchesito" Sunday special, which is their all you can eat breakfast/brunch menu that includes BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS! We were so excited to try it out because it's really hard to find bottomless mimosas in this area.
The food is served buffet style and there are so many options! They had chilaquiles, costillas con nopales, sopa de fideo, breaded cauliflower, chicken mole, tacos de rajas, and more. I grew up eating a lot of these traditional dishes and everything was delicious - my favorite was the arroz con leche for dessert.
We ended up grabbing a table outside, but didn't know there was going to be live music too. Luckily, we were still able to hear the performer from our table. The mimosas were yummy, but a little strong, so I recommend you take your time. You'll have 1.5 hours to drink and eat as much as you want for only $30! But if you're not interested in mimosas, they have a $20 option that includes soda or coffee refills.
Some of these dishes aren't offered in their regular menu, and they told us that the food will change every Sunday, which means there will always be...
