Taste of Asia — Restaurant in La Verne

Sat down for lunch and ordered to go as well. The lunch special portion was disappointingly small. I ordered the eggplant stirfry and was informed that it would not come with a meat. I thought that was OK since eggplant, properly treated, is quite substantial and a good substitute for meat in a dish. Unfortunately, my dish came out with probably 6 pieces of eggplant (1x0.5x0.5 inch post cooking) and some other assorted veggies that had been finely julienned. In other words, I got barely any real food. The only plus side was that the spice level was there - I ordered medium.

The to-go (a la carte) food portions were better but not generous compared to most Thai takeouts. Flavors were acceptable but I can have as good or better almost anywhere else. Nicer ambience than most thai restaurants but the poor experience with the lunch will keep me from...

I'd stay away, and they claim to be short-staffed, have several tables reserved yet nobody shows up. Lackluster watery Tom Ka Kai soup ( looks like they ran out of coconut milk), was salty and long strands of chive. How to order two additional orders of steamed rice because when you get the bowl, it's only half full. Interesting how they charge full price for everything yet you don't get large servings and a halfway full bowl of rice. Yeah, we're in a crappy economy I'm in many other things, but to charge with a charge you should get decent food quality, servings, and experience. Also the server / host had to go to the back to ask a question and yelled out what one of the customers had asked for, ruining the so-called high-end elegant atmosphere.

Location:Good, Parking: Fair, Service: Fair, Price for food received: balanced, Overall: This was a first time try and when I walked in the place was not very busy. I noticed the hostess did not seat me until I had to walk up and ask. I did order the Chow Mein (Spicy Level 3) and have to say it was very well prepared. Now I only had water but you would think they would look to see if I needed a refill. By the time they did stop by I was almost done which was kind of a bummer. So would I get food from there again, yes. Would I sit in the restaurant, maybe one more time. But I did like the cook from the back who did bring both my first meal and my to go order out in a decent amount of time....
