Abacus Catering — Restaurant in Lafayette

Billed as a high end lunch restaurant however, our experience was something different.

Arrived just past noon yesterday with three adults and one toddler. The restaurant was busy and we had to wait a bit for a table to be cleaned and refreshed. No big deal! After being seated we waited a bit more for someone to come take our drink order. While waiting we decided to browse the buffet to make our selection. The food salad bar was decorated nicely with good selections. The main selections looked appropriate but unfortunately, none of our selections were hot, rather they were just above room temperature including the chicken & sausage gumbo.

I was personally looking forward to some of their fried chicken which I noticed while waiting for a table. When I approached the buffet table the selection of the fried chicken was sparse with just thighs on hand and they weren't even warm.

We ate what we could mostly, from the salad bar and departed around 1pm. They never did restock the fried chicken while we were there!

At $75 for three adults and one toddler to eat lunch you would think they would double down on food quality and service!

The food is great every day but on the Friday I was there it was the bomb. I started with the best seafood gumbo I've ever eaten. Then I had the shrimp and egg stew with fried catfish. This combination was awesome to say the least. The praline chicken will surely put a smile on your lips. The salad bar is the greatest. Did I mention the gumbo? Don't want to miss nutin. Wish I could talk about the dessert but I was too full to try. I spotted a large piece of pecan pie looking at me like if to say come here, I know you want me. And I did. The first time, I excused the discrepancy bc their food is so good. I ordered Abacus lunch, along with bread pudding...only to get the hard, burnt crust from the bottom and NO sauce. I was pretty turned off after that, so I hadn't ordered for some time. Today was the day I decided to try again. I was hesitant on ordering bread pudding along with my meal bc of the last experience.
