I stumbled upon Budges Drive In and I'm so glad I did. I had an appointment nearby and wasn't familiar with the area, so I brought up Google Maps and searched for restaurants. I liked the look of Budges and their menu. When I got there I noticed it wasn't what I expected for someplace with "Drive In" in their name. There were just a handful of parking spaces and I noticed a small patio with picnic tables. I'm assuming it was a full blown drive in at some point. I perused the menu. I was wanting food, not ice cream. I ordered a cheeseburger meal with their famous fries and a vanilla coke with house made vanilla syrup. I ordered a medium size for the fries and drink and my total was just over $9. I ordered at one window and waited at the other for my food. The staff were very kind and friendly. It didn't take long for my meal to be ready, maybe 5 minutes at most. I'm not much of a french fry person. I'm pretty picky about them. I opted to order them as my side because the menu said they were famous for their seasoned fries. They are the best french fries I've ever had in my life. I'm going to have to return many times for those. The seasoning was perfect and I loved how crispy they were. The menu said the burger patties were seasoned and then cooked. The burger was a great size and I loved the bun. It was definitely a greasy burger, but delicious. There wasn't much grease dripping off. I had lettuce and mayonnaise on my burger. With my first bite I could taste the seasoning on the patty. It was unique...the only taste I recognized was seasoning salt. It was a very good burger. I can't wait to eat there again.

I’ve only been to this cool little ice cream shop once, but it was great first impression. There was a big line when we arrived. I’ve been told there’s always a big line because everything is so tasty at this beloved little place. Their staff rocks though, and the wait to order and get our food was very short. I had a small soft serve vanilla cone with twinkle coat. I also had a little bit of my son’s chocolate milkshake. Both were tasty. Nothing fancy, but cold and delicious on a hot day. There’s a nice little covered seating area. I’ll definitely be back.

Well, it is NOT a Drive In like Dog N Suds with carhops and ordering from the car. You have to get out of your car because there is no drive thru either. The appearance of the place looks like it hasn't seen much maintenance or updating in its 78 years and the neighborhood is "seedy". They got my order wrong, which took 10 minutes and another 10 to make it right. However, the Coney dog and fries were excellent and the portions more than generous. I might go back but not after dark.

Changing my review. Updated 4-27-24. Repeat customer for two decades. Today was terrible! Sunny, perfect weather, possibly 25 people standing in line or already ordered and waiting. Normally Budges staff takes your order and the same person makes your cold items or drinks. Today, that was not the case. Person taking your order did not make it. The ticket was given to 3 different young people who were continually making mistake after mistake. As I stood waiting for my order ( literally 10 min) I saw 5 wrong items called out at the window and in one case the ice cream was smacked along the window and knocked the top off and sprinkles went everywhere. The young person smiled and laughed and the customer of course was not happy. Mine was wrong as well and you could hear confusion from the staff outside on the sidewalk. Budges, you lost face today. FIx this.

Feel free to contact me for discussion as this entire situation was disappointing for...

I have to say this year at budgies here in Lafayette Indiana has severely gone downhill they just need to give it up me and my girlfriend ordered two double cheeseburgers two chili cheese fries and two large Cokes and it was a total of $30 I could have gone to a sit-down restaurant and paid the same amount for way better quality of food our food was god-awful the bun was full Grease the fries were so greasy you couldn't even taste the cheese or the only thing good about the meal was the coke we got I gave basically my fries away to a homeless man and I gave the Burger to my dog I highly suggest you do not go here if you plan on thinking that you're going to get good food cuz you're not I really wish I could go down there and get my money back I'm never ever...
