Tucked away on E. University in Lafayette is Jane’s, a hidden gem that delivers an unforgettable French dining experience. From the moment we stepped into the quaint courtyard, we were wrapped in the warmth of its cozy, intimate atmosphere. The entire restaurant only seats about 30ish.
What truly sets Jane’s apart, however, is the exceptional quality of the food. Each course was executed with masterful precision and unmistakable passion. The evening began with a basket of fresh-baked bread, still warm from the oven, paired with impossibly creamy butter imported from Normandy. Then came a delicately presented caviar service, which was elegant and perfectly balanced in flavor, followed by melt-in-your-mouth Japanese wagyu that was, without exaggeration, one of the best cuts of meat we’ve ever tasted (and we eat a lot of steak)!
And just when we thought the experience had peaked, dessert arrived: Seth had a Belgium dark chocolate crème brûlée and I had a strawberry pavlova that was sweet, creamy, and oh-so light.
Adding to the charm of the evening was the hospitality of Chef Will Baxter — a Lafayette native who trained at the French Institute of Culinary Arts and has cooked in several acclaimed Manhattan restaurants. He is an owner/operator and his passion truly lies with giving each customer an unforgettable meal.
If you are in a hurry to dine, look elsewhere-- the meal is meant to be a journey where you savor both the company and the food. The waitress told us that they rarely, if ever, give to-go boxes, because you will clean your plate! The menu changes seasonally, so it's a must visit a few...
Read moreWhat a beautiful addition to Lafayette’s expansive pallet this restaurant is. The service was attentive and strived to cover the commotion coming from the chef and exposed kitchen. I’ve read through some of these reviews indicating they felt like the chef’s behavior and outward abuse of his sous chef and line cook to be downright comical. If you’re looking for a restaurant with exquisite service and creative food and don’t mind hearing berating pander over your table’s conversation then this is truly the spot for you. If you are looking for a quaint romantic evening to converse, enjoy a meal, and drink a good glass of wine then I would recommend calling ahead to request being seated away from the dining room where the exposed kitchen is located. In addition to witnessing the high volumed commotion in the kitchen, you’re also leaving there smelling of fumes from the food being cooked. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, the food and service are delectable and a lovely addition to Lafayette. Unfortunately, as you Lafayette natives know, this location is missing the mark in southern warmth and charm based solely on the chef’s behavior.
It was so bad that a table next to use aborted their dinner and left before beginning to peruse the menu. I regret not...
Read more11-11-22 My boyfriend and I came here for the first time. THIS IS WHAT THE REVIEWS DON'T TELL YOU: There is a $40.00 reservation fee. There are only 2 cooks/chefs in the small kitchen. You WILL BE WAITING HOURS FOR FOOD. lol!!! They overbook AND the chef can NOT actually prepare meals for the customers in a TIMELY MANNER. (This is an absolutely bad call on the manager of the establishment and chef.) DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU WANT TO DO OTHER THINGS IN THE LATE EVENING--THERE WILL AT LEAST BE AN HOUR WAIT FOR YOUR ENTREE (if not more) ...AND AT LEAST A 30 MIN. WAIT FOR THE APPETIZERS YOU ORDER PRIOR TO. The manager/chef has no consideration for their patrons...so customers do not receive water for free as they are waiting hours for food to be prepared. Every bottle of water ordered is over $6.00. Complimentary bread is not even offered out of inconvenience or the restaurant staff NOT mentioning the "wait time."
The pluses: The butter nut squash soup: 10/10 The bread and butter: 10/10 The Salmon Wellington puff pastry: 10/10 The Chicken Ballotine: 10/10
The food is very delicious. I just felt like I was held hostage from 7:20-9:55 waiting to eat. THAT IS NOT FUN! Because of THAT and...being price...
