Tomo Sushi — Restaurant in Laguna Woods

My search for an All-You-Can-Eat Sushi brought me here. I first found a place in Irvine, but all the reviews were harsh. I figured Laguna Woods is great area to explore because it is near by and I don't like messing with traffic or long wait times.

The first thing I noticed was the 1 item per person menu. This selection for this section was very impressive in terms of variety of items. I understand complaints about this not being "all you can eat", but there is around 20 items. I dare you to order all of these. Do you still want more afterwards? I think this menu is the least of your problems. You can always bring a large group of people to increase the amount of each item you can order.

Likes: Spice tuna hand roll, Sashimi, and salmon skin hand rolls. Pro tip! Hand roll are my favorite at all you can eat places. I understand it can be filling but you get a lot of fish, decent rice ratio, and seaweed. Yum!

Dislikes: The 1 item menu was a major fail! Oysters and the poke (no sauce) were delicious, but everything else was drenched with either vinegar or lemon. The acidity was too high! Maybe this makes you full faster. Just avoid, because it will make you feel sick after eating a few. I recommend asking for no sauce if that's an option. The sushi rolls! Oh my! Don't order these. I got the scallop one because I love scallop, but I ended up just discussed because they hid artificial crab under the scallop if you add that to the California roll underneath you get a pill of you crab smothered in mayonnaise. Yuck! Don't get me wrong if you like rolls go for it, but I recommend avoiding all you can eat and just ordering one roll for $10-12 because it's pretty filling.

Pro tip! Next time I will go for Nigri sushi and hand rolls. I will avoid the 1 item menu all together.

I think if you pick the right items this place could be good. Just avoid anything with sauce and go for a hand roll or fish on rice. The select is good but the quality is okay. It is better than some place I have tried, but overall it's average. I think lunch would be a better option since dinner was slightly over priced given the quality. Also, I noticed a lot of people went for menu items rather than AYCE. One customer brought outside pizza for their kid. Wow! Ha ha I guess anything goes here. The pricing on the combos and entree items is fair. Next time, I will lean towards ordering only menu items and...

I go here often and the women are so amazing but the big male manager with circular glasses got so mad at my mama and I for ordering poke salad and asking for the fish on the side because I can’t eat it. He said we couldn’t order it like that and that they wouldn’t do that again for us in the future. I explained to him why I needed it on the side and he took it from us and threw it away and brought us another with fish IN IT. I said kindly, sir, we order the fish on the side because I can’t have it but I really love all the rest and he told me to order a house salad then. Those are totally different and I didn’t want that. He kept getting upset with us and shaking his head. I feel bad for the women who work under him because they acted like this was normal for his behavior and they tried to talk to us quietly. I’m not coming back here again. Putting fish on the side was such a hard task for them that they said they can’t accommodate us or they’d have to do that for everyone. That’s laughable....

We always order the mixed tempura, that sashimi salad and the dynamite roll. The sashimi salad comes with so much fish, the dressing is wonderful and there are vegetables that I never have received anywhere else. It's very good worth the price.

They have some spectacular special sushi rolls as well, including some no rice rolls that are excellent. The rainbow roll is always good, the tropical roll with mango, salmon, avocado, and pineapple is tasty as is the angry tail roll with spicy tuna yellowtail and sliced jalapeno. So good!
