I’m sorry, but the food here was terrible. I’ve tasted not so good food at other restaurants before, but I got enchiladas here and they were pretty much in eatable. We received our salsa (canned or from the jar for sure) no flavor whatsoever. Then got $4 queso dip (which was definitely white velveeta cheese). Was hoping maybe the appetizers were just a miss and they would redeem themselves with the actual plates...but was sadly let down when I received my “cheese” enchiladas and they were covered in the same white velveeta cheese, tortillas tasted old and chewy, opened one up to find even more white velveeta cheese but instead of it being melted it was just a huge solid chunk of it in the middle. Beans and rice were just okay, but that’s literally the only thing I could manage to at least eat a little bit of. Some people may like velveeta, but when your at a restaurant spending almost $30 for your meal I would expect a little bit more than just some sloppy fake cheese that you could purchase from the grocery store for $4 and use at home if you reeeeally wanted to. What should of been a $5-$6 meal at home (which I wouldn’t even make this at home personally) turned out to be a $30 meal at an actual restaurant. The place was just really run down looking, and even the plates and bowls used looked old. Staff was pretty nice, but that’s about all. Didn’t wanna say anything at the time because I didn’t wanna be rude, but definitely would never go back and wouldn’t recommend. It’s says “authentic Mexican” but there’s nothing authentic about velveeta covered...
Read moreI will never eat here. We were trying to find a parking spot for the Mardi Gras parade. No sooner than we entered the parking lot a lady appeared making us leave. The whole street was blocked off so there was no way anybody would be coming to eat at Cancun anyway. The city needs to pass an ordinance that prohibits this restaurant from actively engaging in trying to block people from attending the Mardi Gras parade. The other businesses nearby were reasonably accommodating of the Mardi Gras crowd. If Cancun Mexican Restaurant doesn't want parades in front of their restaurant then they should move away from Ryan Street. Shown is a picture of their parking lot. Look at all the empty spaces that could have been used. Notice how nobody is allowed to stand on front of their property. Compare this to the second picture showing all of the parade-goers enjoying themselves in front of Casa Ole across the street! The third picture is the same lady (in the geen shirt) running more parade-goers off the property. So greedy! I will never eat here or recommend Cancun Mexican Restaurant until they learn to assimilate themselves into...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that I have not found a single Mexican restaurant that I’ve liked in Lake Charles but I have high expectations when it comes to Mexican food. I went to Cancun Restaurant with my boyfriend for lunch on a Saturday around noon. When we walked in there was a strong smell that reminded me of dirty wet rags. The decorations do remind you of your typical Mexican restaurants but the tables, chairs, and even the walls and menus are old and run down. The salsa they provide with the chips is watery and unflavored. I ordered nachos and my partner ordered a fajita burrito. The cheese sauce on the nachos was cold and tasted strongly of Velveeta. One thing I will say is that the staff was very nice, fast and accommodating. This place has potential but it needs a lot of love and some revamping of the menu. I don’t recommend it if you’re looking for an authentic Mexican or even...
