Sam's Southern Eatery — Restaurant in Lake Charles

Overall, not bad just okay. Went on a Thursday for dinner about 6pm and it was empty.

Location: on Ryan Street. Has its own parking lot. I could see parking being difficult if it's very busy.

Atmosphere: appeared clean. Walk up & order at the counter, they give you a number and will bring food to you. You get your own fountain drink. No loud music. Booth seating (seat yourself).

Service: friendly. Not much interaction except to take order and bring food.

Food: fried & grilled fish, shrimp, chicken, oysters. Salads, burgers, poboys, hushpuppies, fried green tomatoes, coleslaw, red beans & rice, fries. I got the grille fish/shrimp combo with Coleslaw & green beans. My brother got the same except chicken instead of shrimp. We both agreed that our grilled items were too salty. The coleslaw was good. My husband & SIL got the fried fish with fries and okra. He felt the fish was underseasoned. The okra was okay. The fried sides/appetizers felt frozen-fried. I do love that you have the option to make the fried proteins grilled. Their portions are worth the price.

Price: very affordable for fish & shrimp. For grilled 2 fish/5 shrimp & 2 sides plus fried fish (big pieces) & 2 sides plus drink was $30.

I was craving gizzards so I decided to try this place since their shrimp is so good. Any way I ordered I got home opened it n it didn’t look good, it looked old like it been recooked or something it wasn’t nice n crunchy. Well I decided to still give it a try n forced my self to eat some of it cause it tasted nasty but u know I paid for it. Any way I figured maybe my husband would give it a try when he got home. N same he didn’t like it he said it tasted like old grease. I was like dnt eat it then. 3-4 hrs from me eating it I began to throw up so bad. I know it was the gizzards cause that’s all I had eaten all day. Has to be food poisoning cause my 2 yr old also got diarrhea. I called the manager n he told me tht he was sorry but he didn’t know why because other people ordered gizzards n did not complain. I was offended by the way he talked to me. We recently moved to the area and stopped at this restaurant. We have been back about 5 times since 😁. The food is really good and we absolutely love the fries. The corn is very good and so is the Sam's sauce. My only issue is with the employees. They are more concerned with being on their phones than attending to the customer. There is one older black lady that is on her cell phone walking around with it in her hand to deliver the food to the tables. And shes at the register using it until she's ready to put it down to take your order. We also saw one younger girl in the back also on her phone talking. I've never been to a restaurant or store where the employees are more concerned with their phone than the customer. If they were a little more friendly that would be great.
