We chose this place based on a dark, twisted sense of humor that was titillated by the name. We are quite glad we did too. There was no 4G, no 3G, and barely even cell reception in Lake City today. The lack of cell-phone wielding locals everywhere we visited gives me the impression that this is a usual state, but it meant I couldn't check in at the time of my visit.
Having grown used to this digital appendage, and the inadvertent self-isolation that goes with it, I was a bit surprised by the boisterous parties at the multiple full tables and bar having cross-conversation. The servers and bartenders joined right in, reminding me very much of the few pubs I had opportunity to visit in the UK. For that old-fashioned ambiance alone, a stop here would be recommended.
The Bison Burger with bleu cheese I devoured was quite tasty. I did have to slather it liberally with condiments as it was not the juiciest of burgers ever, though that may also have been remedied by a different choice of cheese. The fries, which Raz talked me into and we paid a little extra for, were very run-of-the-mill.
Raz's scalloped potatoes, on the other hand, were inspired and delicious. The Pork Osso Bucco that they accompanied was melt-in-your-mouth tender and my mouth waters at the memory. The sauerkraut also on that plate Raz described as "the real thing" and "the good stuff," but I can't judge that since a bite of any sauerkraut pretty much causes me to pucker just short of total face implosion.
We also shared the Stuffed Mushrooms for a starter, though I saved description for last since they were the best. I only vaguely looked at the description of the dish, leaving my tongue to guess the recipe. There were so many subtle, complimentary flavors in the stuffing that I happily failed my self-imposed challenge. If we find our way back through Lake City at some point, I'll come back and order 2 sets of the mushrooms for myself and call that a...
Read moreThe food was good but the service was less then competent. I told the server I was allergic to tomatoes and when I ordered she didn't even mention that my selection was smothered in a tomato sauce. The menu didn't say, the chef came out even when asking about some items on the menu but neither picked up on this and now I am suffering drastically because of this lack of knowledge and communication. The server was well aware of my allergy and didn't even info me. Their selections are very heavy, nothing really healthy or of a lighter food. Not very impressed at all. It is osso bucco is the dish. Definitely came out smoothered or in the sauce it was cooked in. This is not a fake post and it is for packer saloon. Now the owner wants to argue about it. Get over it your servers should know what is in everything on the menu. She suggested salsa and chips. After I said I was allergic to tomatoes. Ummmm unless your salsa is made without I am sure it...
Read moreGot horrible food poisoning from the Bratwurst. Felt bad immediately after lunch, ended up so sick I had to go to the hospital! Ruined my vacation and had to go home. Still sick 4 days later. Don’t eat here!
Want to add an addendum. Still sick after 5 weeks, and went to my doctor. She did some tests, and I have trichinosis! My doctor told me it was likely due to the food poisoning, that improperly stored or undercooked pork caused the trichinosis. I can DIE from this infection!
Doctor said if it gets any worse I will have to start a course of meds that will make me feel even sicker. I have lost a lot of weight, and my life has been totally destroyed by this illness. Do NOT eat at this restaurant, the Russian owners/operators need to go to food handling classes and see how American standards are different, and how to keep the health of their customers at...
