Cowboys Restaurant — Restaurant in Lake Dallas

Unfortunately today's lunch was not as good as the first time I came to this establishment. I was actually extremely excited to have lunch here today because of the last time I had lunch here. Today was not a good day for the BOH for whatever reason. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with 2x of mashed potatoes n gravy. I knew I'd have leftovers, so making 2 meals out of one. Boy was I wrong, the mashed potatoes were so garlicky that I couldn't even eat them, let alone take any home. I love garlic, but this was way too much. My S/O had the catfish bssket, no real issue just a bit undercooked and lack of seasoning. Of course I tell our server, she offers another side dish; which I decline because my heart was set on the side I ordered. I pack up the to go box minus the potatoes n ask for the check. No discount, no fix to the situation, just sorry we'll do better next time and there's a new cook in the kitchen. Absolutely not my problem that a new cook is trying to make sure your establishment is vampire free. This is not the customer service I expect when your employee ruins the meal I'm paying for. We had a group of people that arrived at or just before 08:00am for a weekly breakfast together and were seated very promptly. Our waitress took drink orders in fairly short time. Then, after about 20 minutes, we had to go track her down to bring refills. Finally, after about 55 minutes after arrival, she took our orders. What was bad is that our waitress was also waiting on one or two other tables. Other waitresses tried to help by bringing refills but our waitress waived them off. Finally, after almost 90 minutes after we arrived, our food began coming out but there were multiple mistakes with orders. In fairness, we had 16 people in our group but our waitress (apparently) did not want to have to split her tips with anyone else. A manager should have intervened and had other waitresses/waiters to help her for a large group like we had. This was my first and last time I will visit Cowboys. It may be a good experience for couples or small groups but even then I will not...

So I recently moved from Houston to lake Dallas and figured I try some local food joints. I'm really glad I did. Hands down one of the best dinners I've been too. They have a big menu with lots of breakfast and dinner options through the whole day. You can get an actual real meal cheaper than most Fast Food places in 2024, let alone a sit down restaurant. The food itself is great. I highly recommend the breakfast burrito and Chicken Monterey. Service is great and attentive to small and big groups and they are very friendly and will remember you if you come in more than once. I would much rather give my money to a local restaurant employing people from my same town then some big corporation. An added bonus, you can pay the bill from a QR code on your receipt and use apple pay or pay the traditional way and have the server take your card.
