I would give zero stars if possible. DO NOT come here for steak. I reached out from their website's 'Contact Us' over 2 days ago but I guess the only way to get a somewhat timely response from management is to write a review so here we are.
My mom and I came here for lunch on a Sunday. Our server was great, however it is apparent there are back of the house issues and I was not a fan of the manager (he didnt introduce himself). We both ordered a starter salad + sirloin entree medium rare. Their steaks are upper choice 28 day aged. On the first attempt, our steaks were blue (rarer than rare) so we sent it back. Server was apologetic - we understand it's not her fault. I thought it was odd that it took over 10 minutes to get our entree back. Once it arrived, it was well done (duh)! We had to flag our server down to notify her. At this point, I would just pay for the salads and leave but my mom was hungry so we stayed. Server said they will cook us a new steak which seemed like it took forever. A man who I assumed is the manager came over and told us he heard what happened and that they are getting new steaks to us. He was unapologetic. He walked over the new entrees himself and stood at our table saying he wanted to watch us cut into our steak to make sure its right- but I had to ask for a new fork because mine was left on the original plate. My steak was medium well and the other well done. We have been at the restaurant for over an hour now and starving so we just said we'll eat it. I dont want to send anything back for a third time and wait longer (we had places to be)! I also had to ask him for a water refill...the attention to detail is lacking. I barely ate any of this unappetizing steak and went back to my wedge salad. My mom ate some of hers and we boxed up the rest. I would have just left it all but she didnt want it to go to waste. We gave our cc without waiting for the bill to arrive because we needed to go. Is it weird we didnt get an itemized receipt? I calculated everything up and found we are paying for the whole meal. I felt bad for the server so I still gave 15%. The manager could have at least comped the salads or comp one entree because our lunch took twice as long and our steaks were never cooked to order. I read other reviews here and saw others had issues with their steaks. If management is reading this, I would really appreciate SOMETHING comped and I suggest someone manage feedback from your website.
TL;DR- restaurant cannot cook a medium rare steak, sent back twice. new steak was not cooked to order. unapologetic manager who should have comped something but didnt. wasted 1.5 hours here,...
Read moreI am angered by my treatment at this restaurant. I am an older single woman in town for work and decided to treat myself, so I went to Oswego based on it’s reviews. I seemed to put out the teenage hostesses when I said I did not want to sit at the bar. Apparently, a single person is supposed to sit at the bar and not take up the space for better paying couples and groups. When the waitress came, she gave me a menu and stood there, as if I were supposed to instantly know what the menu offered. Fortunately, something caught my eye and I ordered almost instantly. The food came with cold mashed potatoes and barely room temperature beef tips. I waited and waited for someone to come back so I could send them back to be heated. No one came, so I finally ate what I could. The flavor of the beef tips was good, hence the 2-stars. I would have liked a second glass of wine and some water with food, but no one came to see how I was doing. I would have liked a dessert, after all I was treating myself, but no one came. Finally, I flagged down the hostess and she went and got my waitress, who gave me the bill without asking if I wanted anything else. Not to mention, when she did interact with me she kept calling me “dearie” and other endearments that I did NOT appreciate. Show me some respect! Once I got the bill, I put down my credit card and again waited for someone to take it. Again, after an extended period of time I had to flag down the hostess to find my waitress once more. Upon leaving I tripped off the raised platform of the booth and fell flat on my face, injuring both of my wrists and my right knee badly. No one came. Another female diner came to my assistance. Not one restaurant employee noticed, not even the 3 or 4 teenage hostesses who were feet away and gabbing amongst themselves. As I limped out of the restaurant with a bleeding knee I told one of them that I had fallen and was not given an opportunity to speak to a manager, not given an “I’m sorry”, or any other word. She just looked at me blankly like a fish with her mouth open. Instead of this being a treat, this whole experience was disrespectful and unpleasant. I’m normally a very generous tipper, usually leaving 25-30% and more, especially when I’m alone simply because I am taking a table up and I know waitresses rely on tips. I left a $1 tip, which was 99 cents more than the service was worth, and I left a note on the bill why such an abysmal tip. I won’t be back. Cold food, two sprained wrists, a bleeding knee, disrespectful treatment and uncaring treatment...can...
Read moreI’ve been to both Oswego Grill locations (Wilsonville and Lake Oswego) and the overall vibe is similar — slightly upscale but a little outdated, with dim lighting that’s perfect for a romantic or intimate evening. Of the two, I’ve had the better experiences at the Lake Oswego location.
We’re a family that loves to celebrate with good food in a nice setting, especially for birthdays. We’re usually a party of 11 (all adults, so no kids’ menu!), and my niece especially loves their Double Chocolate Stout Brownie — rich, decadent, and a must-try.
Appetizers: Our favorites are the Salt & Pepper Calamari (crispy, flavorful, perfectly cooked) and the Fresh Seared Sesame Ahi (beautifully plated and delicious).
Burgers: The Oswego Grill Burger is my top burger choice here — fresh, flavorful, cooked well, and served with fresh veggies. I’d rate it about a 6.5/10 overall compared to other places I’ve tried.
Steaks: I’m a big steak lover and have tried almost all their cuts except the Bone-In Ribeye. Quality is good (7/10) with decent flavor (7/10). They’re cooked to temperature (I prefer medium-rare or rare), but they don’t quite have that “melt-in-your-mouth” wow factor. Sides are simple — nothing too creative like truffle mashed potatoes or unique vegetable dishes.
The Star of the Show: The Stuffed Chicken Breast — provolone and mozzarella, fresh spinach, and that amazing caper cream sauce. Every bite is flavorful and perfectly balanced. I give it an 8.5/10 and it’s now my go-to order.
Service: This is where I feel Oswego Grill could improve. I’ve worked in and around the restaurant industry through family and friends in high-end dining, so I know how much great service can elevate an experience. The welcome is great — you’re greeted warmly and seated promptly. Drinks start flowing quickly. But the “in-between” often falls short:
Drink refills don’t happen consistently without asking.
Check-ins on how the meal is going aren’t always there.
Dessert menus aren’t always offered at the right time.
Clearing finished plates could be more prompt.
Over the 25+ visits I’ve had here in the past 3 years, this has been consistent. I’d rate service at 7/10 — good, but not quite what you’d expect from a place considered upscale.
Bottom Line: If you want a nice dinner out with family or friends, Oswego Grill Lake Oswego delivers solid food in a pleasant setting. But if you’re looking for that “red carpet” level of service for the price, you might want to explore...
