On Thursday morning, Nov 15th, I flew into Chicago Midway for a short layover. I had some medication I needed to take so I went to a nearby restaurant, Arami, and asked for a cup of water. The male staff person that I spoke to called over his shoulder to another employee and indicated that I should ask her. She responded with a sassy attitude that I could buy a bottle of water. I then asked if they would give out cups of water to which she replied again in a sassy manner "only to paying customers!"
My issue with the responses from both of the personnel was not that they only give water to paying customers, but the manner in which they addressed me which was rude and with an attitude.
I walked away from the restaurant and when I had walked across the food court area, I stopped and took a photo of the restaurant to post with this negative review.
That's where it got even more interesting and more ridiculous! As I walked back toward my departure gate, a man wearing a lanyard with airport ID walked past me on the moving walkway and then stopped just in front of me and took my picture with his phone. He then continued walking quickly and ducked into a shop as soon as he could exit the moving walkway. A few seconds later he came out of the shop and immediately headed back toward the restaurant, Arami.
I can only assume that this was an employee (possibly even a manager) of the restaurant, Arami, who further displayed rude and confrontational behavior.
I reported this entire episode of non-courteous staff behavior to the food court manager on duty.

Read moreWhy is it near impossible not to be disappointed trying to eat something that sounds good at an airport. I was looking around for something veggie, saw the tofu dish, saw the quick to-go options in the fridge case which looked okay, and just hoped it was going to be even remotely satisfying, but sadly to say, $20 for a bowl of rice with a few pieces of fried tofu on it and a pop I find myself wishing I just hadn’t purchased.
I don’t know this restaurant, but needless to say, I wouldn’t visit their primary location. I get that airport rent is pricey, but maybe throw in a few more bean sprouts or something. I had no cucumber in mine and maybe a thread or two of red onion. It was just a pathetic looking and tasting dish and you get with the food the usual wish-I-didn’t-have-to-be-here employees who could not care about you or your food.
Although I didn’t interact with him, there was a man making sushi who seemed maybe the only one here doing a reasonably good job so there’s an extra star here for him. Everyone else just looked like they definitely didn’t...
Read moreFood is ok. Low rating is for the service, and I didn’t even expect much as I just wanted to grab something and catch my flight. Cashier was mad I didn’t tip and I don’t know why she expected a tip of 18% for just ringing me up. She kept complaining to her coworkers and the customers after, saying “they” never tip, and it was very obviously a racist generalization. Never said anything directly to me, though, which made it worse. You might want to consider hiring staff who aren’t racist to Asian people, especially since it’s a Japanese restaurant. And before you come at me for not tipping, I will very gladly tip if this was a restaurant and not a self service counter. Maybe think about paying your employees more so they are less bitter and racist. Looking forward to your reply as I’ve read through a lot of them and they’re pretty...
