Dulce Cafe Cubano — Restaurant in Lake Township

I saw this place on tiktok and was pretty excited to try it, but this jibarito that I got is awful.

The pork has no flavor at all and the plantain "bread" is tough, dry and virtually flavorless. The sauce tastes like it's just plain miracle Whip. I will eat just about anything, but I think I might actually be throwing this sandwich away.

I also got an empañada and it was flavorful, but the filling was a bit dry. Plus by the time the order got to me, both it and the jibarito were cold.

The one good thing I ordered was the flan. It was delicious.

About the delivery itself - the driver apparently couldn't find my apartment so he just left it in front of some random door on my floor. When I went out in the hallway looking for it, I initially thought it was just a bag of trash because it didn't have a receipt and menu stapled at the top like every other food delivery i've ever gotten; just a tiny little yellow sticker in the middle of the knot of the bag, with the name of the restaurant. When I finally opened the bag, the sandwich was falling apart because it had been wrapped in a piece of paper that was too small and it had come open.

Just a fail on so...

Some of the best Cuban food in Chicago if not the absolute best! First of all the empanadas are so delicious! The meat is fresh and well prepared and seasoned, the breading is perfectly crispy but not to much so once you take your first bite it’s all the flavors enriched together! Then the sandwiches are so delicious as well, from the breading being pressed perfectly to the fresh vegetables and meat that’s placed inside. Then the fries I’m not sure what they’re putting on the fries but they taste similar to McDonalds fries but way better! The salt and oil used to cook the fries got me so hooked you’ll be obsessed with this place! The smoothies are all natural and very delicious. The smoothies is just the perfect icing on the cake for a well put together dessert to finish off with your wonderful well put together Cuban food! You’re not wasting anytime...

This is not to throw hate let alone be the reason to stop anyone from trying it out for themselves, yes staff were friendly, my respect to them, might’ve been an off day or barely getting started, but the coffee had no taste, even with adding sugar, there was no saving it, once the Cuban sandwich got to me, the color of the meat was light, seemed undercooked, didn’t have taste to you besides the green hot sauce I had to add, there was mostly fatty parts where every bite I had to spit out, til I ended up only eating the bread, the fries I’ve gotten were the best part of the meal.
