Note: this was around July Upon arrival, the doors were closed and we had to open two doors with our hands. It seems like not much air circulation is going around. This is very bad given we're in the middle of a pandemic. A man greeted us and had us wait close by, while he was taking the information of someone else and telling them to go wait in the car for half an hour. The same thing happen to me. This person was not fully covering his face, only the month, not the nose. 30 or so minutes pass by and I get a phone call. This call seemed to be a private number because the caller ID gave me the name of a person and not of the restaurant. We were told we can come in. Upon coming in again, we were taken to a table that's very close to where the hallway where people walk by. Our server was super nice and attentive to our needs. She brought us some chips and ceviche. The ceviche could have been better. I didn't fully experience it since the rest of my party ate it. Looking at the menu, the food did sound interesting but majority of the items on the menu did look very generic and probably will be drenched in greeee upon cookin. Unfortunately, they did not have all the drinks that were shown in the menu. This lost one star for me. While waiting for our food, I noticed a few customers not respect the social distancing or the mask laws. The employees did not address this. I also noticed one employee who had very long hair, would frequently brush his hair to the side using his hands. He did have a mask on, but the fact that he was using his hands to out his hair to the side, and the proceed to grab other people's dishes from the table and brush his hair after throwing the dishes away, this is a potential cross contamination hazard. Pre-Food: They brought us prepackaged utensils, those you can find at the school literally right across the street. When the food was coming out of the kitchen, flies were also coming out from there. The flies followed our food and eventually hovered around our table area as well. One of them actually did last on the food. Food: I ordered a steak. Mar y Tierra. The main dish portion was very, very good. The meat was very soft and it was packed with flavor. The part of the dish I was truly not a fan of was the Cole slaw. It tastes as if it was left to sit in a container for a very very long time. It was also very watery and had little to no flavor of the vegetables or I gradients the Cole slaw should have. It had a different flavor I am unable to describe except for when you leave vegetables to sit in water and vinegar for a long time. It did not even tastes pickled if you are wondering that too. The bathroom is very small. Only big enough for one person. The one thing I did not like is that there is only an air dryer and no paper towels. I like using paper towels. Especially during a pandemic. This helps reduce the chance of spreading the virus in an enclosed environment. Especially when it might be hidden inside the air dryer. Overall, with the a I've mentioned, I'll have to give it two stars. The steak was good, but everything else was not to my expectations. Especially during a pandemic. I notice in the reviews that some people were getting sick from the food? Have they not address this since then?

Hello, Dom here your local Chicago guide, just Walked into el G for for the first time, food was great, pricing was a bit above the usual for most places that I have tried carne asada in but quality was good, as well as the portion, I wanted to try the pastas they looked delicious but ended up trying something a bit more authentic, service was good, a bit slow for a slow day, longer than usual taking the order and also bringing the check, I had to deal with 3 different people, bathrooms were clean, the ambiance and the decor of the restaurant was nice, would be even great to making a side of the parking lot a nice outdoor area, the music was way too loud for a Monday afternoon. Recommendations, Overall great job on the carne asada itself however it was still missing some seasonings, was a bit too plain, the portion was good however the plate was small the food was crowded, too much lettuce, the salad was really good that came with but since there is salad there’s no point of the lettuce, I would recommend replacing with either fried onions or cactus or jalapeño for those who like spicy or simply for nicer looking plate. For the sauces on the table I would replace them with a special home made sauce that can be called El G fe sauce this alone could potentially get customers hooked such as the green spicy sauce that is offered at the beginning. Will probably come back and try those pastas alongside the birria tacos

Highly overrated! I I'm posting two stars because you can b.y.o.b and there is a patio, although the patio has a horrible view. A friend and I went on a Saturday evening and had a 2 and 1/2 hour wait for patio seating. Although close to our call time we sat right by the entrance a group of 4 were seated before us who came after we did. We did speak to a manager and they completely brushed it off and didn't at least apologize for the error. That alone is terrible customer service. Although we did bring our own liquor we ordered frozen margaritas and they were terrible. After a few sips, we ended up leaving them on the table. The birria tacos were extremely salty. I made it through one and left the rest, same for my companion. The restaurant did not serve Spanish rice or beans. They serve bland white rice and crab salad. We also ordered the crab leg, octopus, mussels, shrimp, 'boil' which had some kind of noodles in it. It was extremely spicy, and again very salty. We muddled through half of it as the tacos were not enjoyable at all. The spice did at least help cut down the saltines of the sauce. The food was pretty to look at, but the overall experience was not enjoyable. We spent $80 not including the tip and the experience was not worth the travel time or money spent. Will not be returning.

Absolutely wonderful experience! My friend took me here on a Sunday night with her family. We had the birria tacoqueso con consomme, guacamole, Buffalo shrimp, calamari, and the seafood feast to share.

Everything was delicious.

When we sat down we immediately were served a light ceviche with limes and salsa on the side and chips and crackers. Just warning you: the salsa is so spicy. It hurts so good 😋 good flavor and very fresh. It has a bright taste so I think it's not a cooked salsa Verde which is a different taste from other Mexican restaurants I've been to.

Their service is excellent.

From the seating hosts to our waitress they all were very nice and took care of everyone who came through the door. They had multiple people helping seat everybody with radios so we had good communication while we waited for our table all the way to being seated and during our whole evening.

Diana was our waitress and she was so nice and attentive. She kept track of all our food coming from the kitchen. We ordered a lot and we got everything we asked for. She checked on us and made sure we got our refill of chips right away.

They're BYOB. Need I say more?

I will obviously 😉

The restaurant is very clean. And the environment/ambience is great.

Good music and nice decor. The seating outside is very nice with large head covered umbrellas which are very beautiful.

The bus boys and waitresses worked overtime keeping everything clean. The kitchen staff was working like crazy keeping everything clean and keeping up making delicious food. We were one of the last groups to leave so I saw how they clean the restaurant at night. They didn't rush us or make us feel uncomfortable at all. They focused on cleaning all the other tables first. Brought us whatever we asked for to pack our leftovers. We were still able to use the bathroom before we left. The bathroom was so clean the air vents in the ceiling were clean and no dust. This was a very good sign that they care about their restaurant and their customers and themselves.

Diana even checked on us in the middle of her mopping to make sure we had everything we needed. We had already paid our bill and given her tip. That was a very good sign of a very good waitress. She saw me ask for a bag from someone and came over to make sure I was okay.

There were hand sanitizers everywhere and I even saw they had a special heavy duty spray to clean up after close to disinfect everything.

I will be back again with friends as often as I can. It's a far drive and a long wait (we waited 40 minutes to be seated) and it's absolutely worth...

OVERPRICED 100%. I went in this weekend with two friends because of the hype the place has gotten. I had to wait an hour and a half for seating which I totally understand and do not mind, the food itself was actually good as well, BUT overall, no matter how good the food was the pricing really makes me bring the rating down to one star. My friends and I were charged $18.95 for a FLAT layer of fries with nacho cheese, steak and about 2 tablespoons of guacamole. One would assume that for almost $20 you'd at least get a decent amount of fries but no, we literally got what was equivalent to a large fry from Wendy's maybe less, and I'm not exaggerating. Next we asked for an horchata for each of us, I assumed that the most we'd pay for a cup of rice-water and cinnamon, even if it were a size XL, would be around $6-$8 MAX, but instead we were charged (for a size large) $11.25 for each horchata!! (which by the way the waitress didn't tell us if and what sizes were available to choose from) So in rice-water with cinnamon alone we were charged $33.75 altogehter, $33.75 IN DRINKS ALONE! plus the ration of steak fries for $18.95. Now to be fair I would say their birria tacos were reasonably priced at $16 for 4 I just didn't like the way the waitress really tried up-selling us to get 3 orders of it which we did get because she insisted so much that it was a little to share one order with two people and we took her word for it. I understand that I ultimately had the choice to get however many orders I wanted regardless of what she said, so I am not mad at the third order of food itself, but again I was just bothered at the annoying way she tried up-selling us, I would prefer if she gave us more freedom to choose what we ate and didn't make us feel so compromised to get the amount of orders she thought would be best. All in all for 3 drinks, a flatbed of fries and our three orders of tacos we paid $86 not including the tip, again the food was definitely good, but ANYONE can get the same or even better quality of food for a whole lot less. Will never...
