Barcocina Lakeview — Restaurant in Lake View Township

Update: Came back today for a visit as I've always enjoyed the many visits to Barcocina and wanted to bring my sister this time. We were hungry and had been driving for a while and stopped here for.what we thought would be a guaranteed great time. We went to the bar which was not overly crowded (many open stools) and were immediately greeted by one bartender. She provided menus and waters and was pleasant. We surveyed the menu and the other bar tender who I now know as "Val" came to.take our order. She was clearly distracted and seemed to check out as we were speaking but seemed to listen enough as she got the order correct. At this point she was not rude but not particularly friendly either. As mentioned it was not crowded as I've experienced before but we were hard pressed to get much attention from her. Sheer avoided eye contact and I had to hollar "Miss" to her her attention when needed. The pork taco was deeply underseasoned and we desired salt. The chicken and waffle dish should come off the menu unless you're going to better season the chicken. The coating had spice but you still need to season the chicken for a better flavor. We enjoyed the waffle and ate it. Never were we asked did we want to order anything else ... no additional drinks as ours were now empty ... no additional food as we were visibly done partaking of the two ordered items. We would have gotten up to leave if she didnt have my credit card at the bar but we felt as if we were being held hostage. We tried a few times to get Val's attention to no avail and even tried to get the busser to get her attention which also was unsuccessful. When we finally flagged her down from the not overly busy bar she drops it off again not inquiring anything about how we enjoyed the food, etc. So I tell her we wanted to order kore.food and more drinks but you were never available. We saw her interacting with other patrons and even folding silverware so it wasn't that busy. I left just over 10% tip which is less than half that I normally leave. Having worked in the service industry that's not my norm at all. I understand having a bad day but I don't think this is what we experienced with Val. Cant see myself going back which saddens me as we enjoyed the vibe and drinks on many occasions. The DJ was playing all the great music and we were singing right along. Unfortunately my friend and I did not have a great experience here yesterday . We made a 10:00 reservation on OpenTable which turned out to be the time the kitchen closed although we were disappointed we did understand as food service workers ourselves so we decided to sit at the bar and just have drinks which the host told us we were more than welcome to enjoy. When sitting down we were met by a male bartender who didn’t say hello or anything he placed menus down and said “you know the kitchen is closed right?” We said yes and that we were only there for drinks. So my friend and I began looking over the menu and decided getting a pitcher made sense because we wanted the same drink. When he came back we told him we wanted to get the pitcher he literally looked both my friend and I up and down and said ok but I need a card to start the tab. At first I really tried to ignore his attitude seeing as they were kind of closing and we were coming in kind of late but as the night went on he never came and checked on us and we realized absolutely nobody else had their card taken at the bar. People were closing out their tab with no problem. But because he left we had to flag down the lovely woman bartender (she was really amazing and honestly I would go back only if she was my bartender) to close us out and she seemed a little confused when we told her that he had taken our card. But this situation really rubbed me the wrong way because my friend and I are young and black African American women and none of the other white patrons had to give a card to create a tab and we saw these people order waaaay more than just a pitchers worth. It honestly just rubbed us the wrong way because even if that’s protocol the fact that we were the only ones who card was held hostage after being met with a nasty attitude just really is disheartening. I also feel that us coming in at 10pm when the restaurant says it doesn’t close till 12am should mean we get the same customer services as someone who comes at 5pm. I came here for the Taco Tuesday Special. We arrived around 8:45pm and were never told what time this special ended so assumed it went on till close. We got one round of tacos ( 4 tacos total were chosen by my group of 3) and many of the options were cauliflower. The woman serving us assured us she'd be back with more as we didn't find many options on her tray, but she never came back. My group was catching up and next thing we know it's been an hour later and no other tacos have been served. By 10 I asked the waiter if any more tacos were coming out and he then told us the deal ends at 9:30pm. So our total was over $200 for 4 tacos, guac, 3 margs included in the deal which was $120 (40x3) + 3 additional margs we got + tip and taxes. Initially I misheard the waiter say $118 for the total so we paid and were shocked when we got the receipt. I did complain after the fact ( wish I would've seen my reciept before we paid bc I could've disputed this bill as it would've been cheaper to just pay for everything we got a la carte) to the waiter that our bill was insane for only getting 4 tacos and also never being informed about the end time since we came in late and it was our first time ( something our waiter even asked us at the beginning). The management did provide each of us a free taco Tuesday to be used at another visit due to this issue.

Food: from the two tacos I had Id say the food was average. Maybe there were better items, I just unfortunately did not have the chance to try much. The margaritas were also ok.

Would say I really wanted to enjoy this place. The restaurant was gorgeous and the atmosphere was fun! I was sorely disappointed by the service and I believe their taco Tuesday special is deceptive for the fact that they are not transparent with its start and end time (which for public knowledge their taco Tuesday special Is 6:30-9:30pm I believe).
