I arrived late for a friend’s birthday dinner. There were either servers or food runners (2) delivering meals to the table when I arrived. They went about their business and everyone was enjoying their meals. The server (Cora? Cory?) came to deliver a couple of drinks and walked away. They came back quite a bit later and asked if I was joining the group. I said “it looks like I am,” then took a drink order (an iced tea). The server never came back to ask if I would like to see a menu, nor asked if would like to place an order for a meal. Strangely, the server was removing plates from some of the guests who were finished with their meals while others were still eating. There were open tables in the restaurant and there did not appear to be any guests waiting for a table, nor were there any tables near us; we were in the back in what seemed to be a private party area. It was only when the server came back and took the plate from the birthday guest when the guest asked me if I wanted to order something. I said I was not offered a menu and everyone was nearly finished eating. The server apologized and then offered to have something prepared. I declined at this time. I did step out for a few minutes, to see if I could grab something from Middle East Kitchen, but they were closed as it was after 9pm. When I returned, there were plates on the table for a birthday cake. There was not a plate for me at my seat. We used one of the plates that had silverware service on it so I could have a piece of cake. The server (Cora? Cory?) did not offer me another iced tea, nor did the server offer water to me, but refilled water glasses on the table. I said nothing and just observed. Yes, I was quite late; I had just returned home from work when the gathering was supposed to occur, needed to change (I was in scrubs), and reorient myself (I spent the last hour at work acknowledging a family’s grief, ensuring that appropriate medication, and instructions for end of life care were provided) before arriving to my friend’s birthday. Interestingly, the server also never offered coffee to any of the guests with dessert: one of the guests had to ask for it after he had dessert.
Overall, the environment was nice and relaxed. I cannot comment on the food because the staff did not offer any. The server seemed nice enough and I felt bad for them bc they seemed overwhelmed. We were a large group, so I assume at least a 20% gratuity would be included, so I can understand the thought process of “I’m getting tipped no matter what,” That said 3 different people walked past me when I was at the table and did not offer anything. It was only after 20 minutes or so, was my presence noticed, and was tokenly offered anything. I wonder if I was Caucasian, would my experience have been different.
This was my first time dining, well actually sitting, at Lady Gregory and I don’t think I...
Read moreHaving gone to LG's since they opened probably a decade ago, my recent experience having not gone for two years due to COVID, was beyond disappointing. I got my usual Deviled Eggs and Mac n Cheese, which I have had well over 30 times. The eggs had obviously been made the day before or the day before that because the egg "mousse," for a lack of better words, had browned over, which means it was definitely not fresh. They were completely flat. As far as the Mac n Cheese (which, between my husband and me, have had well over 50x) had no recognizable sauce. The bottom of the dish had a liquid that was no where near the original version to where all of the noodles were coated. The only "real" thing that was reminiscent of before was the toasted bread crumbs on top. My husband had the artichoke dip, as always, which was also clearly made in advance. It was basically all artichoke and a small amount of cheese "dip" with a pronounced layer of grease or oil on the bottom of the dish. He had to scoop up the oil to get to anything that could actually be eaten. For the first time in probably 30x of ordering this dish, he not only didn't need to ask for additional crostinis, he had no desire to even finish the dish - the same is said for both of my dishes. Lastly, I ordered a Grey Goose Cosmo. It was clear that there wasn't any measurable amount of vodka, but all filler of cranberry and lime juice to where it literally made my mouth and throat sting (sent this back for a diet coke). I'm not sure what Martin has done to this establishment since COVID, aside from not bringing back any of the original staff that knew how to make things properly. We won't be going back and I'd be embarrassed to recommend LG's to anyone as I used to always do...
Read moreThree stars feels fairly generous, but I understand that things are still shaky on account of the panini. I stopped by, with my pup, to ask if dogs were allowed on the patio. After more than 5 minutes trying to catch anyone's attention, I was told that yes, they are, and I was shown to a table.
Cute atmosphere, looked like the inside is nice as well. Bonus points for the spritzer bottle of sanitizer on every table.
My server, whose name I didn't catch, was lovely. Every other staff person I encountered was neither friendly nor helpful, but she was genuinely great.
It was a busy afternoon to be sure, but the restaurant was hardly slammed and there were always tables open. I quickly ordered a beer as well as fish and chips, and I waited at least 40 minutes for the food. I don't mind waiting, truly, and again I'm more than happy to be extra gracious right now. Unfortunately, the food itself was not worth the extended wait. Everything was mushy and cold, like it had been sitting out for a whiiiile. The fish itself tasted reasonably fresh, so if I had gotten the plate right out of the kitchen it probably would have been lots upsetting. The mini condiment-sized cup of slaw was another disappointment, as it was like half full of watery mayo. My other issue is that the prices were quite high, all things considered, and nothing I experienced really seemed to justify that, or the additional 2.9% card fee.
Honestly I hate getting a blah meal in the city, because there are so many incredible places all over, that it feels like such a waste. Maybe I'd try again at an off time? But yeah,...
