This place was great - I am so excited a Thai place like this opened up in western Lakeview! I went with one other person to try Mahanakhon Noodle bar, and we both agreed we will be back again. It is so nice to have a Thai restaurant that has menu items beyond your standard Thai dishes (no pad see ew or cashew chicken here!).
I hope this restaurant gets support because I love mom & pop restaurants that provide a cute atmosphere and dish out great food for reasonable prices.
For the food - first off - everyone should try the Nom Yen to drink. It is a sweet, bubble-gum like drink that goes great with the spicy, sour dishes offered.
For appetisers, we got the chive stick and the pork luk chin tod. The chive stick had a crispy skin, with a soft almost creamy center. While fried, it was not oily, which was great. The Luk chin tod, pork meatballs, came with a great tamarind sauce.
For dinner we got tum poo pla-ra, papaya salad with fermented fish and fermented crabs. The papaya was shaved really thinly, which is my preference. It still had a nice crunch. The fermented fish and crabs added a really interesting flavor but not overpowering. This was the spiciest dish, so it helped having the nom yen!
Finally, we had the Sukhothai Tom Yum Noodles. This was my favorite. They had so many different toppings including two different fish balls, roasted cha siu pork, ground pork, dried shrimp, a ramen-style egg, long beans, and a fried wonton (which was great to save for the end). The noodles were cooked well, and the broth was a little spicy,...

The food is just like from Thailand.
Amazing portion size. My partner and I always order 2 different things and share so that we can try more things on the menu. we only could finish 1 bowl!
Incredible depth of flavors. Lots of options to choose from!
KHAO SOI: We were in Thailand for 2 weeks trying all of the top rated Khao Soi options — this is very very comparable. If you know Khao Soi you know that no two are the same, and the varying sweet to spicy balance is the main factor for me. I personally prefer a balanced Khao Soi, leaning just a bit more into spicy territory, but not too much where you can’t taste the depth of flavor. This Khao Soi is a good balance, leaning on the sweeter side.
Tom Yum Soup: Amazing! We tried a bit before deciding that we could simply not resist eating the Khao Soi as priority - and were too full to eat the rest after. However it had great flavors, spicy and sour! Toppings were great and generous.
Strawberry Thai Tea: A unique and delicious twist. Absolutely loved this spin on the classic Thai tea.
Cannot wait to come back and try more. It’s now on my top 5 fav restaurants in...
Read moreBeen wanting to try this place out for a while after a Thai lady from my local Thai market suggested to come here (particularly for their Papaya salad).
My friend and I were very impressed with the authenticity of the food as well as the great options that they had.
We started off with a skewer appetizer which was good, but honestly the Leng hot pot soup option and the papaya salad truly hit the mark. My friend who's been to Thailand many times told me that this tastes basically identical to the street food flavors he had in Bangkok.
The service was also perfect and friendly. They constantly came to refill our water cups as well.
The spice levels are also not something to ignore. We ordered the "medium" spicy options, and we both felt that it was true to a Thai level of spice. We both can handle spice fairly well, so I'd imagine the hot and Thai hot to pretty intense.
Next time we said we definitely want to try the boat noodles based off of the other reviews and recommendations. Everything...
