It Could've Been Better. I Heard Such Great things About This Place. And Then When We Went.. The First Drinks were Very bland and unsavory (we Ordered Traditional Cuban Mojitos) they Were Saturated With mint Leaves, No taste of Bacardi Rum which it Calls for(she added Some other off Brand rum)...and It had alot of Seltzer water. So My Friend Turned those Drinks back in...and We ordered two of their "Mezcal Old Fashioned". Those Drinks were just a little Better...NOT Great. I forgot The bartenders name(she wore glasses) that served US...she was Nice but Her Drinks Weren't Good at ALL. I couldn't Smoke...although We Were OUTSIDE. The female (brown skinned with a Clean cut) Cleaning up... Came Outside to "Specifically" Tell me To NOT smoke Outside. I just Lost My Son..a couple Days Prior. I Was Coping and I Was Trying Out the Atmosphere of "Nobody's Darling". I Am An OUT Lesbian with Grand Confidence and Swag. I've BEEN Wanting to check this Place Out For Months. I mainly live Out South in Hyde Park Area...and Also Hold an Condo in Evanston Area. I purposely...Brought a Friend With Me..so She Too Can Check this Much Raved About Place. Sadly, It Was a Bad Experience. Oh yeh, the Nice Bartender CAME outside To TELL US to pay for Our Drinks (even though We had an open tab).. although we were NOT done with our drinks. I Would've Probably order a 2nd Round. But, Since She thought or the female (who was sitting w/friends Outside when We Pulled UP) who Brought Our drinks Out To US told her to Go Tell Them to PAY for these drinks. You guys May have Thought We Were going somewhere. WE Weren't. Very Unwelcoming. Next Time Give people A chance To BE COMFORTABLE. You're To Edgy. I READ the ROOM VERY WELL
It Didn't Stand UP To the Talk I've Heard So much About it. Which...was A bit Disappointing. We ended UP at "Fat Cat" in Edgewater and MetUP with Some other Friends there. Ate/Drank Outside and WAS able to smoke our Vapes right outside with No Hassle or BEING Watched like We Were Some Bandits. Marcus WAS AwesomeAt FAT CAT!
I Really Wish...it Could've Went different at the First Place. I WON'T Ever GO Back.
I guess...it Truly is "Nobody's...
Read moreWe were overcharged in multiple ways and the whole experience was a complete disaster.
First, we forgot to close our tab, and were hit with a 20% “abandoned tab fee” on TOP of a 20% tip which was calculated after the fee. So our $58 drink total became $90. Then we were charged $48—for an entirely separate order after we had already left. Over the next few days, my card was charged four times: $30, $45, $90, and $30.
No one returned my calls for days. My partner finally emailed and got a response. The owner admitted their system was a mess, promised to refund the extra order and random charges, and even said she'd refund our entire order because of how badly they screwed up. In the process, she also claimed that she accidentally refunded drinks we bought months ago which we never asked for.
In the end, the random order was refunded, but not the months-old order (maybe they sent that refund to different person’s card?) and definitely not the full tab. Instead, we got $25 back, not what was promised. The owner said she’d follow up but didn’t. When my partner followed up, the other owner stepped in and told her that they already did what they said. She also accused us of bullying for following up with what they offered.
As a queer POC couple, it sucks to call out an LGBTQ-owned bar, but this was unacceptable. Their money system is chaotic and their communication is hostile. As other reviewers have noticed, watch your...
Read moreThis spot was on my must-see list while I was in Chicago this past Super Bowl weekend. It’s rare to find a queer bar with an actual cocktail program and with it also being owned by two Black women, I made the trek from River North to the Andersonville neighborhood — it was well worth it. I happened to sit next to one of the owners, Renauda, who was quite welcoming and gave me plenty of great information about Chicago and the queer scene there.
The bartender who initially took my order wasn’t familiar with my cocktail choice (a black Manhattan made with a high quality dark rum instead of rye whiskey). The other bartender on duty, however, was familiar and while he went to get the ingredients Renauda offered me one of the drinks on the menu (The Harlem Renaissance) while I waited. It was the perfect choice because it was spirit forward as I usually prefer my cocktails. I’m typically a rum or mezcal drinker so I was a bit hesitant at first because “The Harlem Renaissance” is a cognac cocktail. Fortunately, my hesitation was turned into a pleasant surprise with a well-balanced, flavorful cocktail.
The night I was Super Bowl Sunday and there was a DJ playing an R&B set with plenty of Usher hits mixed in. The energy was lively but still felt more like a lounge than a loud nightclub. The bar’s Instagram page lists a variety of weekly and monthly events so there’s something...
