After moving into the neighborhood recently a friend recommended "A Taste of Heaven." Our first visit was extremely disappointing for a holiday breakfast. We sat against the window and because of the sloped floor the table and chairs leaned on an angle so badly we had to turn our chairs away from the lean to sit comfortably. We were served water promptly with menus and ordered coffee. Shortly thereafter our waiter brought the coffee and took our orders. During our wait for the food I was bitten numerous times by flies in the restaurant. It became such a nuisance that other patrons started swatting them away as well. A restaurant with a biting fly investation problem is unacceptable. We both ordered different varieties of breakfast sandwiches. Mine "Erica" was to be served on a toasted french bagette but was served on an untoasted Ciabatta bread which is italian, not french. This sandwich was just ok. My partner's breakfast sandwich "Mike's Pesto" had extremely undercooked fried egg with bitter yolks and served on sliced "grilled" Italian bread, not "grilled Brioche". Seems the short order cooks don't know their breads, which is strange for a Bakery. Coffee at $3 a cup was awful and we had to get up and go to a coffee bar near the front door to get a refill if necessary. We shared an order of fresh fruit which was fine. Service was terrible. Once the food arrived we never saw our waiter again. I had to flag another waiter down to get a water refill. Once we finished I asked for a container for my ungrilled half of Erica, got the container but had to go to the counter without a check. Two breakfast sandwiches, one fresh fruit order and two coffee's and water with tax and tip $43. I left a tip 🙄 Scary! Never again! Hopefully they use some of that $43 toward an exterminator, soap and water, and a grill that actually grills bread and fries fresh eggs. One more thing, we asked for extra napkins from the woman that served the food and she graciously delivered them promptly. However, the table was so sticky from the previous patrons that the paper napkins stuck to the table. Half the extra napkins remained adhered to the table surface. Which would explain the flies. This place renews my faith and loyalty in...
Read moreA real Andersonville treasure thanks to Dan Cauley's love and anazing skills of baking. The cakes and cupcakes brownies, sweet rolls, and cookies are all truly over the top in blending fine craftsmanship with amazing. It is really hard picking out just one. Better to buy a bunch and share them Meanwhile, the meals available are to die for. The chicken and biscuit is so good. I have ordered it more often than any other entre, yet the others are also amazing. The young woman who served us was so friendly and pleasant. She obviously loves working there. She mentioned how much fun it is to help people who are there enjoying the great food. "People are just in a better mood when they come in here." I know I am! We came for dinner but left with several goodies to go. If you've ever been there, you would understand why we Had to buy all those extras. 11/26/24 update. Came by to have a birthday dinner with mu older sister. We shared the "chicken on a biscuit". Every single bite was just wonderful! It is a rich meal. By sharing it, we were able to raid the cupcakes and cookies -- after we each downed a creme puff! I have never been disappointed with anything I've bought because it is all The Taste if Heaven. Dan really does magic in...
Read moreNothing bad to say after 20+ years of coming here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I can’t think of any other restaurant where all 3 meals are perfection. I try to come with a group because how does one choose between the best biscuits and gravy above the Mason Dixon Line and the savory options like brioche french toast? And for lunch…the sandwiches!! Not your average ham and cheese. Just take a look at the menu online. The Durbin. The Roasted Veggie. My god. And the portions are huge! (In fact, the only improvement would be if they offered half portions. I’m older now and can’t eat as much.) My son and I love the Thanksgiving dinner that you can get year round. We always come here to get it, actually, after every Thanksgiving because it’s always better than the one I, or any of my relatives, make (sorry, Fam) Don’t miss the pastries, either. The interior is utterly charming. Just a cozy space to be in. The sidewalk patio is great, too. This has been a one owner place since the beginning and he created the menu and does much of the cooking. Never once, in more than 2 decades, have I had a bad meal or experience here. The staff is always warm and welcoming. If they ever close down I’ll...
