My friend and I went to go eat there because we heard it was good. It was a beautiful day so we asked if we could sit outside and they said no it's closed and there were several people sitting outside eating?? So we sat down inside and began to order and people came inside wanting to eat as well and they asked if they could sit outside and they were accommodated. There were three other groups that came in and got seated outside and this made us think?? Was it closed because I was there with a BLACK person? The answer is yes that they were prejudiced against my BLACK friend. We are both in our 60s and were shocked beyond belief. We asked our server why we couldn't sit outside and she said because the day before two groups dined and dashed and left without paying. We are both in our 60s with college degrees with bald heads and they thought that we were going to run after we ate our meal and not pay?? This is barbaric and unacceptable in our world today. We were totally shocked and dumbfounded. We will never go to this place again and I highly recommend that no one else go there either. We were singled out not to sit outside because of my friend being BLACK. Then one of the cooks came out and got in my face and told me to leave and flinched at me like he was going to hit me wanting me to do something to him. This goes way beyond anything acceptable that I have witnessed. I am an ex-college wrestler at a division 1 school and I would have ate this guy alive. He is lucky that I used my maturity and left. The people sitting outside heard what was going on and they verbally said that they were on our side and could not believe that they said that to us. They are RACIST to have us sit inside so that we would not dine and dash without paying. I have yet to talk to the manager but I will. The cook should be fired and I have not decided yet to take this to another level (my BLACK friends lawyer) because it is totally unacceptable. I still can't believe what happened and this has been 4 days later. I have not contacted them because I needed my temper to lower before I speak to management about this completely unacceptable manner that we were treated. I'm thinking very much about taking this to a whole new level because that's how bad the situation was. We were humiliated because my friend was BLACK and we could not sit outside. Attached are pictures of people sitting outside and the other picture is of the cook inside that was giving me awful verbal abuse is shown they're trying to explain it to the customers outside. Those customers verbally told me that they totally agreed with our point of view and they could not believe that this RACISM still exists at this place right next to Lincoln square. We never once heard an apology or anything which makes everything that much worse. They obviously don't trust BLACK people and that is...
Read moreThis is the best brunch I have ever had! We enjoyed the whole experience so much on Saturday that we came back on Sunday to eat here again. The host was very friendly and gave wonderful recommendations on what to try. Maria was our waitress and was everything you could ask for in a waitress plus more. She was so kind, friendly, and informative about everything on the menu. We never had to ask for anything because she was so attentive and made the experience so much better! On Saturday, the host recommended the steak tostadas, and that is what I had. My wife ordered the omelets with fresh fruit, and we also ordered the Mexican street corn. The steak tostadas was absolutely amazing. Everything tasted so fresh and seasoned perfectly. The portions are large, and we struggled to finish everything. We came back on Sunday, and it was just as wonderful. Maria actually recognized us, and you could tell it genuinely made her happy that we enjoyed the experience so much we came back. It's hard to explain, but it is definitely obvious that all of the employees enjoyed their jobs, and customer satisfaction was the best I have ever experienced. On Sunday, I ordered the P&B eggs Benedict, and my wife had the Chilaquiles Verdes Con Pollo. I was blown away by the eggs Benedict. Everything tasted so fresh and prepared to perfection. You know the food is good when after every bite you are telling your spouse how good it is and trying to share each new flavor you discover with the one you love. We also had the cinnamon coffee, which was recommended by another customer on Saturday and the Ponche Navideno that Maria recommended. When I tell you that both of these will warm your heart and bring a smile to your face, that's a guarantee. The Ponche Navideno is a traditional Mexican fruit punch served hot with fresh and dried fruits. Maria explained to us how to go about drinking it, which was simple but definitely worth following. First, you take out the sugar cane and bite down on it, releasing the sweet flavor of the beverage soaked sugar cane into your mouth. While riding that flavor Rollercoaster, you smash the fruit in the bottom of the drink and stir. Then repeat. This drink is so good. the only way to make it better was a little splash of your favorite adult beverage and a comfortable seat around a campfire. I will definitely be eating brunch here every chance I can when I aIm in Chicago. If you have made it this far, just take my word and go enjoy yourself. Thank you, Maria and staff, for such a wonderful experience. To the owner, I would like to say I appreciate putting together such a wonderful team, fresh ingredients, and such a wonderful place!!!!!...
Read moreSmall cute place for breakfast on the square. Took my dame here for brunch early last Sunday morning. An easy walk from my daughter's place - we appreciated the variety on the menu. Coffees were ordered, and so was a veggie fritatta for myself and granddaughter - along with an orange, carrot, ginger smoothie. My hubby went with the veggie omelet, and we had to try the pastor. A one taco try.
The service here is amaz. The breakfast crowd was already inside so they were already busy when we came. Reminders were made regarding the smoothie and boxes. An extra pancake was brought, which I'm glad she caught before we mindlessly dug in. These factors were not a factor regarding if we would partake in future brunch, our waitress was excellent. Staff were all very friendly and attentive.
Usually not a fan of frittatas, I was pleasantly surprised by a light and fluffier version on our plate. Unfortunately like many places post covid, there is not much flavor in the dish itself. Generally not one for additional salt, I can understand this as a possibility for less seasoned offerings. There are other methods to add flavor. The broccoli in the frittata was super bland. Peppers are naturally sweet - so these were excellent. Could have used a sprinkle of pepper on the top of the frittata, but my young dame was also eating this dish, I held off from that topper. The smoothie was excellent. Not overly sweet - same way with sugar as I am with salt. And could really taste the ginger - which was appreciated. Not overpowering as the root can sometimes be.
The hubby's omelet was the same - light and fluffly yet required some flavor adjustment. The potatoes served with the dish were undercooked and still slightly hard.
The pancake and pastor were both winners however. The pancake was super moist inside and stayed that way as we slowly worked our way through everything on the table. Pancakes make my inner child happy - the outside was perfect. Ate without butter or syrup - it was fantastic. The pastor was served with small pineapple bits and had crispy edges. This was also fantastic, but required immediate attention. The longer it sat the tougher the meat became. Eat your tacos first kiddies.
We will likely try another round of brunch again in the future. Was not a fan of the coffee, and I loove dark roasts - was a little too bitter at...
