Hidden Gem in Lincoln Square: A Photographer's Perspective at DANK Haus
From the outside, the DANK Haus might seem like any other building in Lincoln Square, but step inside, and you're transported to a world of history, elegance, and charm. As a photographer, capturing moments at this venue was nothing short of magical.
Historical Elegance: The DANK Haus, built in 1927, is a treasure trove of history. The Marunde Ballroom and Skyline Lounge are adorned with original details like terrazzo floors, gilded ornate plaster moldings, and historic chandeliers. These elements provided a rich backdrop for the traditional Japanese wedding I had the privilege to photograph in the summer of 2023.
Modern Amenities: While the venue boasts historical charm, it doesn't shy away from modern amenities. The updated WiFi ensured that wedding photos were shared instantly, and the built-in stage was perfect for entertainment, keeping guests dancing under the disco ball all night.
Skyline Views: One of the standout features of the DANK Haus is its rooftop terrace, Die Terrasse. Offering panoramic views from Edgewater to Indiana, it's a breathtaking spot, especially at night when Chicago turns into a mesmerizing sea of lights. This feature added an extra layer of beauty to the photographs.
Flexibility and Affordability: What makes DANK Haus even more appealing is its flexibility. Unlike many venues that mandate specific caterers, here, couples have the freedom to choose their vendors. Plus, the inclusion of tables, chairs, and free parking for up to 90 vehicles makes it an affordable choice without compromising on the experience.
In Conclusion: The DANK Haus is truly a hidden gem in Lincoln Square. As a photographer, every moment captured here was a blend of history, modernity, and natural beauty. For couples seeking a unique venue that offers both tradition and flexibility, DANK Haus is a...

After we got engaged, we naturally started looking at venues. We had reached out to a few, but hadn't heard anything back after a few days. A friend recommended Dank Haus to us, and I'm so glad. We called, Monika answered and said we could come right over and check it out. We live about a 10 min walk from there, so went right over. We liked it right away. The venue itself was beautiful. We wanted something different than the traditional banquet room, and this fit the bill. We also felt very comfortable with Monika. They were also very flexible. We could use any caterer and could even provide our own liquor, to save money. We decided then and there to go with their ballroom. The venue cost was pretty reasonable, from what we'd seen. Throughout the process, Monika was great. Any questions we had, she was always quickly to respond and helpful. I really appreciated that! We were able to load stuff in a few days before the wedding, and had help getting it in. The day of, everything seemed to run smoothly as well. Afterwards, we were also able to get help picking stuff up. I highly recommend this place. The price is decent, they are very helpful, and above all else the venue...
Read moreWe loved our wedding at DANK Haus’s 6th floor Terrace and Skyline Lounge! We had our ceremony and dancing on the Terrace and cocktail hour and dinner in the Skyline Lounge. The Terrace view has a beautiful view of the Chicago Skyline and it was magical to have pictures and dancing with the stunning view! The Skyline Lounge is amazing with old Chicago architecture with gold designs and a beautiful mirror where we placed our sweet heart table in front of. We thought the 6th floor was wonderful for our wedding of about 65 people! We also saved a lot of money because DANK Haus allows whatever food to be served if you have general liability insurance. We were able to find a staffing company who served food and provided this! We really wanted specific food so this allowed us to serve the food we wanted and was much cheaper than at other venues! The bar was BYOB and we saved a lot of money by buying liquor from Costco and returning extra! It was also amazing that a bartender and security guard is included in the Skyline Lounge rental at no cost! Some things to keep in mind is glassware and linens are not provided by the venue. So you can hire a catering company that can provide these items or rent separately from...
