Red Hot Ranch Holy Mecca of Hood Burgers

Food: 4/5 I ate here drunk so IDK how accurate it is, but this is beyond a solid cheap burger spot. It’s the usual fair of cheap buns and meat with uninteresting accoutrements but the execution is spot on, bringing it on par with burger shops double or triple the price range flavor wise. The free inclusion of fries is a whole hearted indicator of the kind of experience you’ll have, but even in its utter simplistic lack of elegance (the potatoes are barely even soaked), these are weaponized for the better (the fries are crisp succulent starch bombs) elevates it from schlock to dam good eating. Even the out of the box cod sandwich is hilariously divine. And the price, again, the price is absurd for the flavor.

Service: 3/5 It’s the kind of place that only takes cash and has an ATM in the corner. It’s the usual order up and grab and go. Place is decently clean if mayhaps a little unorderly.

Atmosphere 4/5: Like a vivid memory of a hot dog shop, in all its glory and antiquated ways. I am a heart throb for a spot that had no frills about the kind of place that it is but YMMV depending on if you want to stay for a while.

Final Score: 4/5 Recommend almost all items and going a bit out of your way for a visit.

It’s a no frills well executed cheap burger spot in Southport, it kinda blows my mind how much I liked this vs Lucy’s. It’s right next to the equally beloved Schubas bar so go there afterwards to enjoy a beer and a show. Not much to say, but that’s the point with Red Hot Ranch, it...

Redhot Ranch is a late-night haven for those craving a classic Chicago-style hot dog or a perfectly satisfying burger. When the late-night munchies hit, Redhot Ranch is my go-to for a taste of Chicago comfort food done right. Their hot dogs are a quintessential Chicago experience – a snappy natural casing dog nestled in a steamed poppy seed bun, topped with the traditional fixings: mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt. It's a symphony of flavors and textures that just works. Beyond the dogs, their burgers are equally impressive. They offer a solid, no-frills burger that's cooked to perfection – juicy and flavorful with a satisfying char. It's a simple burger done exceptionally well, and sometimes, that's exactly what you crave. What truly sets Redhot Ranch apart is their commitment to quality and consistency, even late into the night. The ingredients are always fresh, and the staff is efficient and friendly, even when they're swamped with late-night orders. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, perfect for a quick bite or a late-night gathering with friends. They understand the late-night crowd; they're fast, they're reliable, and they serve up delicious, satisfying food without any fuss. Whether you're in the mood for a classic Chicago dog or a perfectly grilled burger, Redhot Ranch is the answer to your late-night cravings. It's a Chicago institution for a reason, and they've definitely earned a place on my list of...

Let me start by saying i'd give this place 4 stars for the food alone. If you are looking for a killer grease ball burger with fresh cut fries, this is the place. The hospitality on the other hand makes me both sad and angry.

Angry because of how my co worker was treated. We would frequently go here and order 3-4 people's worth of food with each visit. The last time he went in to pick up food, while was he was waiting, the people behind the counter and the cooks began to ridicule his tattoos, as they were showing because it was a hot day. At first he thought they were joking but it continued. It continued to the point where they began questioning his up bringing, his beliefs and his morals. Again all this after he paid and was waiting for his food to cook. In a country were religious tolerance is supposed to be a thing why would your religion or lack of have anything to do with ordering and enjoying a burger.

Sad because none of us will ever step foot in this place again. You can have whatever beliefs you want but when you start chastising others for no good reason, others that are paying customers, then you won't be getting...

***CASH ONLY*** WARNING*** The sign is hidden too! They let you know once you've given your order. When I came up to pick up my food and pay that’s when they let me know. I didn’t even have cash on me. They have a conveniently placed atm machine in the restaurant that charges $2 not to mention the fees my bank is going to charge me now. So I am out an extra $5 for a pedestrian meal...Please move the cash only sign to the front door and have a warning on your website too. I don’t understand how a business in the post 2020s does not accept cards or digital payments....The lady working the registered was yelling to her coworker after I said I don’t have cash. ” why these people come up in here and not know that it’s cash only.” I rolled my eyes at that great customer service! This was my first time here also. The hotdog was good. It is a depression dog which I like. The burger was so so.

I’ve been coming here for years and ain’t never had to confirm my order by saying my phone number out loud. I confirmed my name and pulled up my phone with my order information and the lady at the counter want to pop an attitude like I’m in the wrong and didn’t even look at my phone. “I need to confirm your order, whats your phone number” There’s no restaurant in Chicago even while doing Uber, Grubhub and DoorDash PICK UP; has asked for me to confirm my order with my phone number. Then she wanted to slam my food on the counter. I didn’t give no one an attitude I just refused to announce my phone number and showed the cashier my order details and wow got my food! If you don’t like your job quit! Rebuke your negative energy on my food 🧿 This location ain’t never had this type of service! Going back to Armitage!!

Firstly, it’s ludicrous to compare RHR burgers to The Loyalist and Au Cheval burgers. That’s like comparing Seafood City filipino food court food to Kasama’s $300+ evening price-fixe menu!!! Having said that, for $7, a RHR double-cheeseburger and fries is spot-on. The flavors are all there. Juicy, char and gooey cheese with that special sauce, a dupe of In-N-Out burger is close but it is unique in its own way. The fries was hot and crunchy but not too greasy, unlike other similar late night fast food “greasy spoons”. Its a simple place (tables, chairs and 4 walls), working class establishment and cash only but I challenge anyone to find a better double cheese at this price-point in the city limits.
