Just left this place and oh boy, I can't list out enough horrible things about it. First, I tried ordering over the phone for carry out, but the waitress had no idea what I was talking about, so I said ''no problem, I'll order when I get there''. I come in and get completely ignored for about 5 minutes. The bartender pointed me out to the only waitress working there and she says ''ok, he can wait''. So I wait another 10 minutes for the waitress to finally take my order (a grilled cheese sandwich and chili dog). 20 minutes go by and nothing. I ask the waitress if she can check on my order and give an ETA and she says ''the kitchen is right there, go see for yourself''. I go to the kitchen, the cook says he hasn't started on it yet, but it's up next and would take about 20 more minutes (for a grilled cheese and chili dog). So I left.
I didn't see the beer garden, but the place itself had only one table seated when I got there. It should not take an hour for a carry out grilled cheese and chili dog. Combined with the waitress's attitude, this is absolutely the worst place I've...
Read moreGood German food and beer, old school Chicago tavern atmosphere, and a pleasant beer garden in back. The place is an institution.
The Jägrschnitzel is very good. The sausage platter is also excellent. My potato soup was solid and the serving was generously-sized. If you order spätzle, I suggest asking for some extra gravy. The menu is not extensive, but what I have had has been good. Service is friendly, but there's usually a small staff, with the bartender often pulling double duty as a waiter.
Unfortunately, I have had uncommonly bad luck with their kitchen being closed. I typically go before a night game at nearby Wrigley Field. In 2023, I tried going a few times over the course of about a month, and was told they had lost their chef and were training a replacement. This season, I went one night and was told that all they had was soup because the chef from the previous night had failed to prep for tonight's service. I think my "batting average" for actually being able to eat there is currently under .500. Perhaps I've just been...
Read moreI've been visiting Resi's for over 20 years now. The food selection has reduced somewhat nowadays. They no longer offer time consuming dishes like schweinshaxe and saurbraten. However they still serve a kick ass wurstplatte served with a variety of breads and fresh horseradish and Bavarian mustard. The beer selection has grown by leaps and bounds and now features over 30 different kinds of beers from different regions of Germany and Austria. The atmosphere is relaxed and good for casual hangout with friends and family with German music playing subtly in the background. There is none of the annoying singles pick up scene in ear splitting bad music commonly found in bars in the city. A highly recommended place for true German beer...
