Went to Titzal on a Saturday morning for a late breakfast. I ordered the Vampiro juice which was delicious but came without any added ice and was almost room temperature. It would have been more refreshing to have the freshly squeezed juice served chilled. My table ordered the Silver Dollar Pancakes. They tasted like they had been made from boxed pancake mix and were reheated. Their texture was dry and spongey. I’ve had better pancakes from the Trader Joe’s freezer section, to be honest. We also ordered a side of bacon, which ended up being 3 strips of bacon that seemed like they had been drying out in a warming plate for a while. They were not hot, and definitely not freshly fried. Lastly, we shared the Zepher Omelet. Listen, there is no reason for this omelet to be $17. The combination of flavors and textures were all off. It was greasy, salty, and hard to experience in a clean bite. The top of the omelet has 2 slices of melted Swiss cheese. Sliced cheese and omelets do not go well together because the anti-caking agent on the cheese prevents it from getting nice and gooey to the point where it blends in well witb the eggs when you’re chewing it. Instead, each bite of the omelet brought out poorly the filling, eggs, and sliced melted Swiss came together as an eating experience.
I know this place is known for their chilaquiles, which my table didn’t order. It’s definitely possible that those items are reliably delicious here.
Unfortunately, my meal here was disappointing and did not live up to the recommendations I’d seen for this place on community groups and other online spaces.
Lastly, I’ll add that we wanted to sit on the patio and the person who was seating us told us the patio was closed. Mysteriously, a few minutes later, another group came in and asked to be seated out on the patio and they were walked back there by a different FOH staff person. Was this difference in treatment an example of the FOH staff fawning over the white customers mentioned by another Google reviewer? Idk… It could have simply been a miscommunication about the patio’s status that day.
I won’t be going back to this cafe again despite its convenient proximity to me. The food was giving Double Tree Continental Breakfast for a might-as-well-book-a-hotel-room price. For me, it’s not worth another visit to give it another chance, since this community has so many other small restaurants and cafes that may be in a similar price range but offer higher quality ingredients and fresher, tastier...
Read moreI visited this place last October and have never been able to forget the terrible service my wife and I received so I figured it was time to write a review. I found out about this place by watching an old episode of Check Please on PBS. My wife was watching the episode with me and we decided to check it out. When we entered, we were warmly greeted and were spoken to in Spanish. My wife and I both speak Spanish and our entire interaction with the waitress was in Spanish. The place wasn’t busy when we were there, there was one table finishing up and us. We were brought the menus right away and some water. We put in our drink orders pretty quickly and took a couple of minutes to look over the menu. While we were looking over the menu, a white couple comes in and once they came in, it seemed like my wife and I no longer existed to the waitress. We were ready to order and were having a hard time getting the waitress attention. While we were waiting, the other couple had put in their order and received their food before our order was taken. Now the food was delicious, my wife ordered the chilaquiles and loved the salsa, I ordered the Leslie scramble which was great. The food runner brought us the food and would fill our water, but the waitress never checked on us and all her attention was to the other couple. What should have been a delightful breakfast, became an ordeal.
It really seemed like the waitress had a preference on the type of people she wants to serve, and it’s not Latinos, which is shame because the waitress was Latina. I want to make this clear, the other couple has no fault in the treatment we received; the waitress apparently doesn’t value Latinos even though our money spends the same as anyone else. Also, I didn’t say anything to my wife while we were there and it wasn’t until we left that we had a long conversation about the service and she also noticed that we were basically ignored once the other couple came. We weren’t angry about the situation, but saddened by the discrimination. Haven’t returned to this establishment...
