An old time themed restaurant/dinner with a great feel for nostalgia but no center theme and feels more like a hospital cafeteria.
The food offered is a variety of southern comfort foods that are predominantly deep-fried.
Bread is a large portion of the meal as you are greeted with bread rolls and a cinnamon/sugar butter for spreading and end the meal with very large and rich cinnamon rolls. So the menu, in my opinion, is not diabetic friendly.
The servers are visibly working, but most are walking in a very slow paced manner, as is the nature of the eatery. Food did come out hot, which was nice but did taste like it was fresh out of a box. Ordered the grilled chicken st Louie style and the chicken filled was thin/butterfly cut and over cooked due to being so thin and then seemed to be completely dunked in possibly sweet baby rays bbq then topped with a heavy hand of cheddar cheese and probably about 5-6 slices of bacon.
Most other options for anything on the lighter side were in the same ballpark of how it could be served in gravy or sauce and bacon.
My other 2 guests ordered the chicken fried steak, and the meals were heated thoroughly as they should be but had the consistency of a frozen hungry man's dinner. Steamed veggies were properly steamed and piping hot but did not have a taste to them, but they didn't seem to be seasoned. House salad was simple and straightforward. Corn was decent.
Theres very nifty mini juke boxes on each booth table, but the mix and match variey of pictures, decor, and 1 dallas cowboys jersey on the wall were good individually but nothing seemed to be cohesive.
Most guests seemed to be regulars or locals, and that is great to see, but perhaps I'm expecting more than I should in a place to spend money in this economy.
Our server did a great job greeting us on time and the floor manager took our drink order promptly but the used plates /bowls sat there in front of us and then we moved them to the side to make way for our entrees they sat on the table entire duration of our meal.
Post meal, I felt like I had a heavy and greasy feeling in my stomach for about 2 days. I did not eat the cinnamon rolls, and I only had 1 roll with my meal and water, but that load of cheese and bacon did not do me any favors.
I'm not here to knock down a family business, but there's an obvious theme to the dinner, and it's possibly in need of a up to date refreshing to revamp the glory it once had.
Gives you old tyme vibes with old-time procedures and menu selections.
Update after the owner replied;
Thank you for not addressing the quality of the food or steps of service and using all caps to emphasize passive aggressive back handed gratitude.
Maybe if you focused that energy in your place of business you could enjoy the benefits of better quality items and smoother transitions between your employees and guests.
I appreciate your feedback and am sending much needed...
Read moreI decided to update this review with a TL;DR FIRE YOUR HOSTESS. After going through your negative reviews on here...the most common denominator is her. I even read a review from another Military member who had an issue with her on Veterans day as well!
I tried to hold off on doing this, but after 3 times of dealing with this place...and even speaking to Ginger herself, who said she would send us some coupons/vouchers for the service I received (then never sent them). It's time to leave a review. Look, I wanna love this place, because the first meal we ordered from them was amazing. However, every time we order from there there is an issue or an incident. I have ordered Take Out everytime with this place...and everytime they have forgotten the Cinnamon Rolls. Not usually a problem, because I always check the order before I leave anyplace...the issue is the attitude of the woman who is always at the cash register. I inform her that there are no Cinnamon rolls in my bag, and she acts as if I have gravely inconvenienced her because she didn't ensure my order was correct. One time she said they were out of cinnamon rolls and would have to refund the money...they weren't out. Someone from the back ran out to tell her my cinnamon rolls were still in the oven, she never even checked, nor cared to check. This woman has possibly the worst attitude and frankly I have no idea who thought having her run the register was a good idea. She is rude, huffs and puffs at everything, and doesn't ask if you want to leave a tip, but effectively demands it. I can say more about her, but I already told Ginger about it and nothing was ever done. The food, though great at first...began a steady and constant decline. Our main food orders went from correct and delicious to always wrong and edible. I am thoroughly displeased with Ginger Browns. They use to be a delicious escape from IHOP and Denny's...now I'd rather...
Read moreMy parents had been taking me to Ginger Brown's since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I had not been there since I was a teenager. We just moved to this neck of the woods and I wanted to go for my Birthday in honor of my Father(how I miss him) and to get one of those cinnamon rolls that I loved as a kiddo. Atmosphere: It felt like nothing had changed. The cookie jars, little jukebox players, very friendly staff! Loved feeling like I went back in time and was able to share a piece of my childhood memory with my better half! Service: Excellent! Our waitress was very sweet and personable. She stayed on top of drink refills and checking on us. Food: Coffee was really good, not bitter, hot, and fresh! The dinner rolls were very dense and doughy on the inside. Strawberry butter was yummy! I ordered a breakfast plate that had biscuits, hashbrowns, eggs, and a meat of choice covered in cheese and gravy. I paid to add another meat and let me tell you in was scrumptious! They did not skimp. It was not too much, and you got just the right ratio with each bite. My better half got a half soup and sandwich. Potato soup was very delicious! Sadly, her chicken salad sandwich seemed to have a lot of additions to the chicken salad that she was not expecting. She prefers a more simple chicken salad. You don't know if you do not try. The cinnamon roll had gotten a LOT smaller than when I was growing up. They used to be huge, but it was still yummy! Also, Thank you for paying towards my meal for...
