Bae and I headed to The Union Bar and Grill near New Carrollton Station for date night, and it didn’t disappoint. Parking is easy—skip the street and use the garage (free validation for 2 hours!). The music sets the tone before you even walk in, and we were greeted warmly and told to sit anywhere.
Ambience: The space is modern and stylish with a cozy vibe. The bar features leather stools, marble finishes, and dim lighting—perfect for drinks or catching the game. The dining area balances comfort and class with mustard banquettes, greenery accents, and warm lighting. Even the restrooms are Instagram-worthy with bold tiles and luxe touches.
The Food: • Spinach Artichoke Dip ($14): Missed the mark. Tasted like mac and cheese sauce with spinach and barely any artichoke. • Wings ($11): Glazed, sweet, mildly spicy, and delicious—though sticky! Try the Teriyaki Glaze for variety. • Lamb Chops ($10): Small but packed with flavor. Juicy, tender, and seasoned perfectly. • Salmon ($20): The standout dish! Pan-seared to perfection, paired with creamy mashed potatoes and spinach. Harmony on a plate.
Drinks were hit or miss. My Old Fashioned ($11) was on point, but bae’s Whiskey Sour ($10) lacked balance due to a mix-up with ingredients. Our server, Mya, was exceptional—attentive, kind, and genuinely cared about our experience.
Tips: • 18% service charge is included, so bring cash to tip your server directly. • Alcohol tax is 9%, and sales tax is 6%. • Total: $82.17—a solid price for a date night spot with great service and an upscale vibe.
The Union Bar and Grill is worth visiting for the ambiance, service, and standout dishes like the lamb chops and salmon. Just skip the...
Read moreI stopped in yesterday with high hopes after getting off the train, but unfortunately, it was a letdown from the start. To set the stage: the restaurant wasn't full. The majority of people were seated at the bar, with random empty seats in between. The service was incredibly slow and disorganized. It took at least 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us, and even longer to receive our drinks. During that time, I noticed multiple employees standing behind the bar, chatting with each other instead of attending to customers. There was no urgency, no attention to guests, and certainly no sense of hospitality. We were seated right in front of the employees at the micro station at the end of the bar.
The woman who stood there reluctantly took our order. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time, but the food arrived before the drinks. When I asked the young lady about the drinks, she said, "I don't know, you have to ask the bartender." I was left wondering what her role was. If she wasn’t a bartender, what was her title? She couldn’t be a barback or a busser because she neither assisted the bartender nor helped clean up the empty glasses piled behind the bar. If she was waiting tables, I definitely feel sorry for the poor bastards in her section.
A brand-new restaurant should focus on impressing guests and building a loyal customer base—not frustrating them with poor service.
We ended up cutting our so-called happy hour short. With the rising costs of everything right now, the service we received definitely did not warrant my time or money. I hope they get their act together, but for now, I would recommend...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place since coming across their instagram page. I was at New Carrollton station and googled "food near me" and guess what?! It was the place I've been wanting to try for a few months now. I love that they allow you to seat yourself. I went around 3pm, it wasn't crowded at all. I had my two children with me. After a long day at the zoo, they were very restless and gave mama a hard time. The staff were so niceeee! Our waitress offered to walk my two year old around the restaurant as we were waiting on our food. Another employee came over to the table to hold my one year old. Typically I'm super protective and don't allow anyone near my babies but I could sense they were good people who simply wanted to help occupy the kids. Now let's get to the food! The food was great, I ordered a bunch of random items.
Lamb chops- they were really good with the chimichurri sauce. My only complaint would be that they cooked them well done both times when I asked for medium-well the first time and medium for my order to go.
kids Mac n cheese- very flavorful, unlike the Kraft style Mac n cheese you get from other restaurants. My son said "mommy, food good". He knows good food when he tastes it. He will let you know if he doesn't like it.
beef egg rolls- they were okay, nothing special.
mashed potatoes- I initially ordered for my one year old but he didn't want it; however, it was good. I enjoyed having the small chunks of potato within the dish.
I will return and try other things on the menu. It's a nice vibe inside too with a great...
