When my partner and I visited this restaurant, we were excited as it had come highly recommended when we arrived at MSU. Given my partner's love for seafood, I decided to surprise him with a dinner treat. However, our experience fell short of the high expectations we had.
We were warmly greeted by the hostess and another staff member. We chose to sit outside and received our appetizers promptly. However, the service took a turn when we hadn't been provided with silverware or napkins, even after 30 minutes of being seated. Our food grew cold as we waited for these essentials. Moreover, leaving our menus on the table throughout the meal created unnecessary clutter, even when we were finished ordering.
The most disappointing aspect of our evening was the attitude of one specific staff member, a girl with brown hair and glasses, who served both our appetizer and dinner. Her demeanor was noticeably rude, and her interactions with us lacked warmth and hospitality. She seemed uninterested and rushed, making us feel unwelcome. The way our food was carelessly placed on the table made us hesitant to enjoy our meal fully. I mean throwing our food on the table, not even batting an eye at us and barely saying welcome? It was saddening to see how others received their food compared to us.
While the food had potential, I couldn't fully appreciate it due to poor presentation. The grapefruit cucumber limeade was too bitter and didn't have a hint of sprite. The mashed potatoes and stuffed cod were underwhelming, lacking flavor, though they might suit those who enjoy blander seasonings. The popcorn shrimp was enjoyable, but for the price of everything, I think you could easily go somewhere that serves larger portions, better service, more seasoning, for a fraction of the cost. There wasn't a dish that made me think, this stands out or blew my mind, just average food with a pricey tag. Overall, I wouldn't go back and am too disappointed in...
Read moreI don’t typically write reviews but I was so unbelievably underwhelmed by my experience at Mitchell’s Fish Market, I feel the need to write one.
First, the establishment needs cleaning. When walking in, my shoes and the shoes of my family stuck to the floor. You could audibly hear us walk throughout the restaurant. The carpeted areas looked dirty and needed to be swept or vacuumed. At our booth, the light fixture affixed to to wall was dusty and had food splatters on it as well.
Additionally, in the women’s bathroom 2 of the 3 sinks did not have soap.
Secondly, the food was lackluster. I ordered the lunch crab cake. The crab cake itself had an off taste, almost floral, and it had shell pieces in it as well. The corn medley and potatoes were lukewarm and unseasoned. Simple sides should be attended to as well in terms of flavor.
Lastly, the service staff seemed bored and unmotivated. As someone who was once a waitress, I have never seen so many staff members just standing around. There is always something to organize, clean, or attend to. One staff member asked about silverware and the team continued to stand around in the “back room”. I also noticed staff members eating and then not washing hands when returning to their tables.
Our waiter, too, did not check to see how the food was tasting or if we needed a refresh on our drinks- or if we needed anything additional for the table. The restaurant was not busy enough where he was swarmed with tables, he returned to the back room where the other staff were standing.
I don’t think I would return again, nor would I recommend it to others.
Moving forward, I think management needs to address the cleanliness of the establishment and the expectations of staff when working.
I will note that there were two gentleman- one, tall with brown curly hair and the other a blond, short hair man, they were constantly moving around and checking on their tables. They...
Read moreThis review for Mitchell's Seafood in Lansing first gives a shout out to Mitchell's Manager, Art, & his staff, for his and their exceptional kindness and grace in accomodating a special birthday Feast for my wife's 66th birthday last weekend.
My wife was paralyzed by a stroke eleven years ago, 5 days before she turned 55. Now, having been in nursing home for 24/7 skilled nursing care for the last 7 years, & dying from end stage renal failure, I routinely bring in a special take out meals to her for our celebrations.
So to acomódate her special requested 66th birthday dinner (for what could well be her last birthday on earth), I called Art & asked for his personal assistance in arranging something special for her!
Art & his staff went the extra mile in assuring everything was perfect for her special takeout--the seared sea scallops, redskins, asparagas & carrot cake were prepared to absolute perfection for her.
My steak, scampi, redskins, asparagas & key lime pie were equally perfect!
Everything was absolutely top drawer for my special request, & for my wife's special birthday dinner, prepared to perfection with special kindness, concern, respect & grace in the servings!
Anyplace in town should envy Art & Mitchell's exceptional service for such a uniquely special requested birthday event like this!
Customers with any similar special needs or requests should seriously consider giving Art & Mitchell's a chance to go out of their way to serve your needs as well!
Thank you Art, & your entire Mitchell's team, for your wonderful gifts of fine cuisine & exceptional service!
