Moriarty's Pub — Restaurant in Lansing

I was introduced to this place a few years ago and have now become a regular visitor. It is a very small and unsuspecting place. A perfect little hole in the wall! The place itself is a standard grungy bar atmosphere, but the food is AMAZING (especially the chili cheese fries) and the prices are even better! They have excellent live music most nights of the week and never charge covers. My boyfriend and I find that we usually end up buying an extra drink or two that would normally be eaten up by cover prices. Speaking of drinks - plenty of great prices for that too, and a good variety! This place also draws a LOT of regulars and the staff gets to know you pretty quickly, so after a while you start to make friends and feel like you fit right in. Used to absolutely love this place. Then they got a new menu (higher prices), lower quality food, and basically eliminated their once amazing happy hour. Yes, I understand you can’t keep the same prices forever, but the increase was pretty hefty. Above 30% in a lot of places. And that would be fine if the food got better but it did the opposite. I don’t know if it’s the chicken they’re using now or a new cook, but what was once one of my favorite foods in the state (Cajun thighs) is no longer even close. They’re not bad, they’re just not good anymore. They also seem like they have more breading on them as well and used to be half the price if not more during happy hour. Moriarty's pub is very comfortable. The Tuesday jazz night is nice, but even arriving half an hour ahead of time, I still didn't get a table and had to stand the whole time. Very popular! No cover charge. The jazz was excellent. So was the beer and the prices. The food, from the burger, to the Reuben, and ham sandwich, they were unspectacular. The service was good, however.
