8/15/12: This restaurant hasn't been open long. We decided to try it after reading a review in the City Pulse. After calling in the pizza for pick-up, we went looking for it. We finally found it in a small building with several other businesses. Parking is okay. There is some street parking right on Michigan Avenue and a parking lot behind it, but we didn't see an entrance from the back so you have to walk around. When we went in to get the pizza, the inside wasn't very nice. Not really a place to sit while waiting. It also looked a bit empty and rough. The front food display case was empty. The person in charge was definitely training people telling the new person multiple times what to do. But none of this was too bad. The pizza is what counts. We got our pizza and made our way home. When we opened the pizza box, we saw it covered in green peppers. When we placed the order, we had asked for no green peppers. When we called the restaurant, the manager said we said no onions. He wouldn't even talk to us. He just told the other employee on the phone that we said no onions and left it at that. I don't think so but okay. No simple apology or anything saying that just perhaps he heard incorrectly. It's not like we were expecting a new pizza or anything. We just wanted him to be aware. What we didn't expect was a blanket denial with no chance he could be wrong. Now onto the pizza. The pizza was good. It wasn't the best pizza ever. I've had more toppings on other pizzas. So the City Pulse article saying the toppings are engulfed in cheese and their policy is "go heavy or go home" wasn't true in our experience. Despite picking off green peppers, it did taste good, but not any better than other places. You can get same quality or better pizzas at better prices elsewhere. Other places also have better customer service. We'll skip this place...
Read moreI have grown up my whole life visiting family in New York, New York, so therefore I have grown up eating legit NY pizza. NY pizza is one of my comforts in life. 1. It’s freaking amazing, and 2. It reminds me of my giant crazy New York family all together eating amazing pizza. It takes me back to the first time I brought my husband to the city and he tried a NY slice for the first time and how amazed he was, and confused how it could be so much better than the Hungry Howie’s he grew up eating. Fast forward to today… My husband and I are ill and as I was laying in bed all I wanted was the real NY style Gods first choice pizza to comfort me. Not saying I wasn't against ordering from other places,.. So I went on to do research. Not kidding… a good solid 20 min. That’s when I stumbled upon Toarmina’s. “Hmmm” I thought to myself only because I have never heard of them the 3 years I have lived in Lansing. I was intrigued, I had to look into this! The pictures looked like the pizza I was on the search for! So without hesitation I went to their website and placed an order. I am here to let all of you folks know THIS IS IT! This pizza is the most satisfying/close to NY pizza I have found so far in the entire state of Michigan! From the moment I grabbed a slice and it did the pizza flop you look for in a good slice I got so excited! It then had the oil on top that just gave it that perfect shimmer that a good slice should have. Then I folded it in half and took a bite! I seriously couldn’t believe it! The cheese to sauce ratio is perfect and the topping ratio is perfect for a authentic NY style slice. The owners must be from NY? It really was extremely close to perfect. I promise I am not an employee of friend of this business. This is an honest review. I seriously just found my new pizza home today. Thank you...
Read moreI live 1 block away, a one minute drive. I ordered around 5:45, the order was there at a reasonable time. However, it was the wrong order. I had contacted the shop to explain, the first person I talked to, he cut me off and was very rude, treating me as though I was inconveniencing him. A young woman then spoke and apologized. She asked if I wanted a credit added to my account or have the order remade. Since this was our dinner, I just wanted the order corrected. She said they'd make it. I called back at 7:27 and was told that it was on the way. I was told that I needed to be put on hold. I was on hold for 20 minutes. I called back because they had clearly forgotten about me. I was told that it was on the way and that the delivery person would call me. I called back at 8:00 and asked when it was coming. At 8:15 I found out that it had in fact never been remade. I spoke to the manager, she was very nice. I was told that she would make it and send cheese bread too. I called again at 9:00 and was told that it should come in 20 minutes but he had two deliveries before mine, and because they were slammed, they had to make the other 8 orders, (which took precidence?) was assuring. I called again at 9:40 and the man on the phone acted confused about the order. Then, he told me he would call the other manager (who was out of town) I told him, "ok, remember to call me back." He said he would and that he wrote my number down. It came at 9:50, sans cheese bread. I mention the cheese bread, the delivery guy was confused. I said I would ask for it, but it would probably take another 4 hours. He said "we have had a lot of mix ups today."
Clearly top notch...
