What a fantastic experience! Never one to pass up a chance to visit a new, ‘non-chain’ dining establishment, I hadn’t had a chance to give Tammi’s Kitchen a chance until a few days ago. I always enjoy local diners/restaurants because you get the chance to see what the owners have done that really sets them apart from the typically predictable, bland experience that chain places offer. Boy does Tammi’s Kitchen deliver! You are first welcomed by the uniquely homey Norman Rockwell themed interior design. It just warmly invites you sit down, relax, while leaving the hustle & bustle of the outside world at the door. Scores an ‘A’ for design. I visited Tammi’s for breakfast and ordered my favorite …. which also helps to filter out the ‘food pros’ from the food amateurs - S.O.S. and home fries and a side of sausage. I love S.O.S. for its filling, comfort-foody taste, but it’s easy to not make well. Not only did Tammi’s do well, but they’re the only place in the NEPA I’ve visited that actually uses real chipped beef in their recipe! Don’t get me wrong, ground beef (or beef/sausage mix) in SOS works, but nuthin’ beats the original Creamed Chipped Beef. WOW was it good on my rye toast! And you can taste the homemade care put into the ‘Creamed’ part as opposed to others’ generic #10 can style creamed gravy. Big points for real chipped beef! Homefries are another Go/No-Go for breakfast restaurants – Often browned on the outside and undercooked within. Tammi’s homefries has a perfectly lightly browned outside with a soft potato center (I got fried onions as well). Sausage was yummy – not hastily cooked, flash-frozen pucks you can get around the area. Coffee, smiles, and just enough friendly chit-chat round out the experience. I have a similar favorite breakfast spot up my way in Scranton (but they don’t use real chipped beef!)….But for those in the Larksville/Kingston/Plymouth neck of the woods – Ya gotta make this a...
Read moreFood was good but service left a lot to be desired. Heard great things about this place and loved the Oreo stuffed waffles but this was the first and last time we’ll be there. Walked in and the waitress looked at us and walked away. Another customer told us we could sit where we wanted. Ordered a coffee and no milk was brought to us. Tried to politely get the waitress attention and she would glance over and look away. Got milk after about 10 minutes of waiting. She was friendly and refilling drinks at all the tables by us but wouldn’t even give us a glance. I guess because we aren’t regulars she didn’t care. Just moved to the area and I’m looking for good places to go to but I will not be back to this place despite the amazing food because of the unwelcoming service.
