First time at Blake's Lotaburger today, and it exceeds its excellent billing for iconic NM green chile burgers and more. Reminded me of In-N-Out burger experiences (of my teens in CA before this century), using the "secret menu" for chiles, but actually more flavorful. Also priced similarly and much tastier than local 2024 Whataburger, even better than What was before the family selloff --- and since Corpus Christi's my birthplace (where Whataburger started back when it was at its best), I would know.
The seasoned fries were delicious --- no taste of the oil in which they were fried at all. Ample ketchup offered, plus plenty of napkins. (Yes, post-covid that's not always available from local burger joints.)
The Blake's thinly sliced onion, tomato and lettuce, plus the green chile pieces, on the burger were delicious, without any discernable preservative residue. The bun had none of that modern additive aftertaste. (If you google, ick re: what's going into too many fast-food buns post-covid.)
The Blake's beef patties tasted like ground beef did, old school, aka delicious. I asked the courteous manager about the ingredients, and he confirmed that they use fresh not frozen hamburger patties and fresh veggies too. I don't like cheese on my green chile burgers but theirs is American meltable and looked fine on other burgers I saw.
Other nice features: Refillable soda drinks from selections including sugared and diet cola and Dr. Pepper; a walk-up or wheelchair/walker handicap ramp into the restaurant on the northeast side by the disability parking; and quick turnaround time after ordering.
The Main/Elks location where I ate inside was clean, cool (in summer heat) and cheerful. Great view of the Organ Mts. inside from the bench seats at tables through big picture windows.
If not eating at the restaurant, there's no drive-thru but a sign at the interior sales counter for online pickup orders. Internet ordering may work for some people but I found the service sufficiently fast that I'd probably (if wanting takeout) just go in to order and see what new milkshake flavors, etc., might be on offer. Or get a soda, kick back a few minutes during the food prep wait, enjoy the view, and then refill the cup on the way out with the food.
Nothing's perfect in this perfectly imperfect world but today I happily enjoyed Blake's Lotaburger as delicious value for today's money, and...
ย ย ย Read moreAfter parking I came around my vehicle and stepped on a broken bottle pierced through my shoe into my heel. I pulled out the one inch or longer piece. Went inside and asked for a band aid and the lady looked at me like I was asking for money. Maybe because I'm limping and bleeding. And asking for first aid after being injured and out of work for a week. Finally brings me two bandaids and says where did this happen in the sonic, I cut her off as I'm standing on one foot dusty from falling in the parking lot and now angry that with no concerns about anything but liability. But if she was concerned about that why did no one go clean up the glass or ask are you okay. So for 35 years I've been going there for burritos. But after posting this review and realizing even more of the lack of anything. I'm calling an attorney.. update: owner posted kind reply and asked if I could reach out to discuss further. I truly appreciate the professional the owner must be. I have hard review. Unfortunately not enough numbers. But I thank you. I would like to describe the incident because it was a lack of the employees appreciation for employment that led to gross incompetent employees and an unfortunate injury and misunderstanding that led me to take it public. If I was my granddaughter and it happened what would Cruces do? Again apologies I know you run a place of business. But your employees are not concerned they never went and cleaned it up. HMU though I'll edit again. Thank you...
