As a visitor from California, I was happy to try new experiences and locations while on my travels. This time, it was a little place in New Mexico which has made an impact on me.
Upon arriving at Caliche's, I discovered the facility to be a drive-in type, similar to a sonic or wienersnitchel. The atmosphere is classic themed, reminding me of days long gone. A time of simplicity, aesthetics, and a quality atmosphere that we all enjoy. Where families, sweethearts, and children gathered. A community and a relationship with the establishment.
Or more simply put, classy and homelike. A 50's vibe so to say.
I tried the very berry sundae. The custard, mixed in with the blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry made for an excellent taste both sweet and smooth. The texture, creamy but the aftermath of my dessert, was filling. I was very content with the serving portion, just right for that small space of room after dinner, hitting the spot.
The customer service was top notch. I was happy to see friendly faces because as a first timer, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I enjoyed the amount of concern and care of the staff tonight. You don't see that often about food, especially a custard place. They kept asking if it was good and if I enjoyed my sundae.
You see, in the line of reviewers, and critics, it is our job to provide a clear and honest review about any establishment. Our fuel, the amount of detail we put into every aspect of the review, sometimes good, and sometimes...unfortunate. The path of our decisions can drive growth or drive decline all based of an experience. In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We review and critique the work of individuals, picking apart the very soul of their craft. We analyze and use that to base worth or uselessness. It's an art, one that can be perfected or forgotten. The world itself will determine that if you let it. Not everyone can have talent but talent can come from anywhere.
But what is my outlook on your question you may ask?
Well friends I do have an official response for you:
Well done. I will return one day ready for another...
Read moreWe went here because my mother said it was really good. I have a hesitation of having food that has to be touched by human hands in this day of the Corona, but we stopped anyway. The list of hot dogs sounded great. It was hard to decide so i got the two dog special and an extra, My mom got the 2 dog special also. We got them to go, then took them home to eat. That might have been a mistake. The buns were cold, like they had never been heated up and the dogs too. They were not nice soft delicious buns. They were kind of , not hard, but not like fresh bread. I was hoping for a nice steamy delicious hotdog bun and plumb hot wiener. The 5 minutes to get home was too long not to start eating the dogs. Very disappointing. That said, the green chili sauce was delicious. The other two were so so. The sauerkraut dog didn't have much sauerkraut on it. Definitely lacking. The chicago dog was ok. Nothing special. But it was mostly because of the hard bread and not hot dog. My poor mom got the wrong order, She was discussing in the car how she did not like any with the cheese wiz type cheese. This was before we got to the window where anyone could have heard. She ordered a sour dog. Sauerkraut and a coleslaw dog. When we got home she had a coleslaw dog and a spicy dog with jalapenos, red peppers and the slimy cheese she did not like. Funny how that happened.
I called them to say we got the wrong order. The person that answered said they remember the order because they made it. If i come back they will give me a new hotdog She wanted me to come back within the next 4 days or so. Well, no way will we feel like eating a hot dog within 4 days and i don't know that i would even want one, it was not a nice hot hot dog, not appetizing at all. My mom likes them. She is 86. She would be happy to have that 'dog'. As a side note, there were quite a few cars in front of us in the take out line. The line went really fast. That might explain why the hot dog wasn't hot. but I 'll have to try again and eat it right when i get it to...

I went back for a 2nd taste of the Pumpkin Patch Caliche. This time I asked them to make it with no Salted Pecans in it. Without the pecans, I liked it much better. They added more cheesecake and caramel to it. Huge improvement.
It would have been great with candied pecan bits, but salted pecan...pass.
Original Review:
Yes, pumpkin has arrived!!! Pumpkin Patch Caliche!
What is a Caliche? In several areas of the USA, we call blended custard mixes "concretes."
Caliche is a layered sediment which is often called "natural cement." Being in New Mexico, why not call concrete by a Spanish derived word?
It's really delicious, rich custard. The service is outstanding. They are always so friendly.
I've never eaten lunch there, only custards and malts. So this review is only about the Frozen Custard ice cream.
Please like my review if you appreciate that I take my time to honestly review/inform/update on this place before you spend your...
