Chili's Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Las Cruces

3/7/19 Update

Great service, food is ok. Way to loud. Music competes with tv's and people. Burgers are probably good, but I'm not going to a restaurant to buy burgers I can get at Carls Jr. for a fraction of the cost. This is not one of my favorite places to go. My daughter chose this place since we hadn't been in awhile and they always have specials.

Tried the chicken fajitas last night. They were okay. Smelled burnt, in fact the smell of burned food is so over powering in my leftovers that I can't eat them, it's nauseating. The chicken had some sort of spicy sauce poured all over it, which was new. I had to scrape it off. The chicken was also rather flavorless and spongy, hence the sauce I'm sure. But I can't do really spicy food for physical reasons, so I wish that the sauce was disclosed on the menu so I could ask them to leave it off.

Tried the cheese fries, they were exactly like Outbacks, but much smaller. Outbacks are the best, so that's a good thing! I like their salsa and guac, although they're both a bit plain (could use garlic, onion, and cilantro...NOT jalapeño). My daughter enjoyed her Cajun Chicken Alfredo. I would have gotten that, but can't do Cajun seasoning. And the deserts were pretty good. I think the best is generally the Lava Cake.

All in all, they probably have great alcoholic drinks and the appetizers are good so it's kinda like a pub. But you don't really want to go here to have a nice sit down dinner because the food kinda sucks (entree wise) and you can't hear anything beyond the music and the people, which for some reason are super loud, not sure why. Always great service when we go, but honestly, we don't go often. The only thing on the menu that is appealing to us is the fajitas and guacamole but every time we've gotten the steak fajitas, they're either riddled with fat and gristle or over or under cooked. The beans are ok, but the rice is awful. Always. It's the kind they make. So since we don't like the sides, the main entrée is what we come for. And the flavor is great if you can get it without the fat & gristle and cooked right. And mind you, we're not that picky. If it's not still kicking or charred black, we're happy. The food was good today as was the service. I don't like that they try to make you use a QR code that doesn't work to view a menu. Then when you ask for a paper menu they only bring you one to share at the entire table. So you have to ask for more menus.

Update: Glad they have finally gone to regular menus. The food was ok today, not terrific. The got the order wrong, and everything was room temperature. I had substituted corn on the cob for loaded mashed potatoes and they brought me the corn and forgot the mashed potatoes. When they did bring them out they didn't look very appetizing and tasted about how they looked.. old and cold.

Update 2: Just keeps getting worse and worse. We waited an hour for our food and when they brought it out it was all dried out as if it had been sitting under the heat lamp the entire time. Our Texas Cheese fries were so bad that they had be re-made. Then they didn't have the green onions because "none were chopped up." The fajitas came out with no tortillas, or the sides that come with it (sour cream, guacamole, cheese, salsa). We had to ask 3 times to get all of that, and by the time we finally got it, the fajitas were cold. We ordered the triple dipper to share. We had to keep asking for plates so we could eat that. The mozzarella sticks are more like bricks! They were horrible! I would NOT order those again. In fact after this last time giving Chili's a try, I probably will NOT be back. I do NOT recommend eating here. Don't waste your money. Go somewhere else unless you want to wait an hour for cold, dried out, gross,...

Friday night, an hour wait but only 2 families waiting outside. So we waited it out. When the phone went off we went in and were seated. A few minutes later after we were seated the hostess said she thinks she text the wrong people - ie=US!

We ordered our food and the appetizer came out fast. However my lemonade tasted like dish water so I asked for a regular water and she brang it. The food took 50 minutes to come out. My ribs were warm but the fries were ice cold. We drove 700 miles to get here as we are on vacation and traveling through so I ate it anyways. Then the waitress hovers over me and asks if she can take our plates. I didn’t say anything. Then she says do you want your check? I said we ordered the 2 for 25. Don’t we get a desert? I said get the manager.

He comes to the table and as I am trying to explain all of this he is looking all around the room. He tries to cut me off but let’s me finish. He then starts to blame the state, COVID that no one wants to work. He says he took care of the bill and I said I am uncomfortable with that. My partners salad was great. I ate the ribs and want to pay. But he said he wrote it off already. We didn’t even get the best part... the cookie. Can I at least pay for that and order it? Forget it. I am outta here. Terrible experience from the start...
