So, I have eaten at a lot of Mexican Restaurants, Tex-Mex, Authentic, all kinds and I consider myself a foodie because I love food from everywhere. I always order more than one item from a new restaurant menu just in case one dish falls flat for me. Now, I tried this restaurant because I felt to try it. Judging from the reviews most of the patrons seem to have a similar palette and that’s fine. Everyone has their preference. For me, both dishes purchased lacked flavor for me. The red Chile was ok, the guacamole was a bit watery and the beans were really delicious and the rice was tasty. The grilled chicken tasted like the chicken from my Junior high school fajitas from 20 years ago which mind you was really good with all it’s juicy flavor. The chicken was not dry but it was not drpping juicy, it was just right. I took more bites of each dish to make sure I was experiencing full flavor and not tidbits of possible seasoning misses. Sad to say I did not continue eating either dish. My mom stated that her food was so so. She had carne asada tacos. She really liked the beans and rice. The beautiful thing about the dishes are the fact that they are very low sodium. So if you are definitely looking for a very healthy version of Mexican this the place to go. Be sure to eat this meal with a clean palette. I ordered a nacho supreme which seemed to be a popular item per Doordash but it was a hard consuming the shredded beef as it was a bit chewy and stringy. The next day in order to obtain the flavor profile I was looking for, I added red chile and salsas from Si Senor in order to finish one of my meals. Unfortunately I will not be returning to this restaurant but for others who have a more mild palette this is the place for you. Just because my palette was not pleased doesn’t mean yours won’t be. Like lebar Burton says, "You don't have to take my word for it!"...
Read moreThe only New Mexico restaurant that reminds me of a New Orleans restaurant. Not in flavors, obviously they're very different, but in the way that Habanero's nails all the important things. The pretty gal at the counter who takes your order is unfailingly professional, pleasant and courteous, as are all the staff. The owner/chef uses fresh ingredients, and even has a great gluten free and vegan selection. 5 or 6 times we were asked if we needed anything else during our meal, which is appreciated.
The food is light, healthy and delicious. For us oldsters, there's a senior menu....get the fish tacos. Even the tortillas were light and fresh. What makes the place outstanding is when you go in, it looks like a Mexican restaurant, but doesn't smell like one. No lard. There is outside seating, and front and rear areas. Everything was colorful and clean. You can get beer (and maybe wine too?). I understand how much work is required to consistently have fresh, tasty food and great service too. This is NOT your father's Mexican restaurant. Classic Mexican dishes, but done the unique Habanero way. It's easy in this town to go somewhere else and pay more for a meal, but you certainly won't get a better one. The attention to details and wonderful service make this restaurant very...
Read moreWorst experience. I use to love this restaurant, to the point that anytime I had extra cash I would be there having dinner or lunchlunch. I was a frequent eater even the waitresses new me personally. After the last time I was there I will NEVER be back. It was during a dinner rush and the place was teeming with New Mexicans. I received my macho vegetarian chimichanga I was about a fourth way through with my course as I was picking through it just because I was speaking to my boyfriend and I came upon at least 5 long, thick, black hair. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced. The thought of almost putting that in my mouth made me want to throw up. The worst part about it is the way I was treated. I did not go up to the counter because I realized there were a lot of new customers. I patiently waited for my waitress to come back. After she did I told her showed her. She went to talk to the chef and came back and asked for the napkin full of hair. The waitesss came after a bit and offered me my money back. I was so hurt. After being Such a recurrent customer always finding a way to come to the restaurant, all I was offered was my cash back and a walk out the door instead of a hair free dish. So disgusted and...
