This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants. I have been enjoying the fine Mexican food offered by El Sombrero since 1997 when I first arrived in the Mesilla Valley and made Las Cruces my home.

The food is absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, and especially when it comes to matters of flavor and taste. Simply put, just delicious, genuine, authentic Mexican food. The staff is always quite cordial and always seems to employ just the right balance of friendliness and efficiency.

Even though I frequent this establishment at least once a week, and they have an extensive menu, I must confess, I have neglected to sample much of what El Sombrero has to offer, as I consistently order only one of three entrées; the Ground Beef Taco Plate, the Sombrero Burger, or my personal favorite, the Combination #3 Red with Onions. I can personally vouch for only these three menu items. If you’re like me, and prefer red over green, then you certainly can't go wrong with a #3 Combination Plate. In my opinion, it's simply the best in Las Cruces.

Alas, perhaps the time has come for me to broaden my horizons, break out of my comfort zone and try something on their menu that I've never tried before. I'm certain that I'll enjoy whatever I happen to order, but I always seem to give into temptation when confronted by the #3 Combination Plate. My sister assures me that their Chicken Rolled Taco plate is nothing short of delectable, and please don’t tell her I said so, but she is rarely known to be wrong about anything.

The place has been known to experience a large volume of customers during the weekday lunch hours; however, the staff has always managed to provide seating and excellent service even when confronted with a very mild wait time.

When it comes to this restaurant, I honestly cannot say enough positive things. I highly recommend El Sombrero to anyone looking for great Mexican cuisine as well as a restaurant that offers superb service and a marvelous atmosphere. If you have never been here before, give it a try. I doubt you will be...

Okay... So my best friend and I were driving from Tennessee to California and stopped over night in Las Cruces. The receptionist at our hotel recommended this restaurant for a taste of New Mexico Mexican food. He said to absolutely get the green sauce. So we made our way over and found a packed house on a Friday night, a good indicator that this place is bomb. We are seated right away since there were only 2 of us. We ordered the queso and our meals and thought we were ready. WE WERE NOT READY! After we tried the salsa we knew we were in trouble. Our mouths burned like fire. The queso was like adding gasoline to the blaze. I conceded defeat, but my friend would not give in stating "this is really good, it's just too spicy." After finishing 2 glasses of water she ordered milk to ease the pain. This was enough... Until the meals came. We both orders combos with red enchiladas because we were told the green was going to be too spicy. We overestimated our strength. After sides of sour cream, tortillas, and milk the fire turned to lava and consumed us. But a blessing was sent to us in our time of need. Izzy, the most amazing waitress to tread on this earth took pity on these desperate souls and her manager (who's name I didn't catch, but who is also a beautiful person) whisked the fires away and brought us the most amazing quesadillas in New Mexico. Our palettes were graced with the flavors of chicken, cheese and veggies in a tortilla blanket. They compt the fire and only charged us for the quesadillas and queso (which my friend was able to tolerate). 10/10 recommend this establishment for its wonderful food and service. 15/10 recommend for the dragons who...

Would have been a first time customer. My father-in-law highly recommended this place and only received disappointment. I ordered through their website and received a email stating my order was received and was given an estimated time for pick up-once I got to the restaurant I received an email that my order was cancelled. I went in as I was already there (this restaurant was 6miles out of my way). Went in to confirm my order was cancelled and the hostess said "let me get my manager to speak to you" had to wait 5-10 minutes just for the manager to talk to me. I asked why my order was cancelled and was told because one of the items I ordered (again ordered through their website) they no longer carried and they were out of the 2nd thing I ordered. They could have called me and let me know as I was driving and not looking at my email. The customer service was subpar at best. Not impressed-the hostess was busy sweeping the floor and oblivious to customers and what was going on with online orders and apparently couldn't provide...

Me and my family are regulars here, at that we even have a punch card because we love dining in here. Today Tuesday march, 9th we had the worst customer service. Not only was our order wrong. Rique I believe the receipt said, a tall man with longer shaggy hair didn’t pay our table any attention we waited over 10 mins for chips and salsa we got our drinks no straws even after we asked multiple times. Our appitizers came after our food and completely wrong! His whole vibe made us feel uncomfortable, as if he didn’t care to even work at his job. When leaving another employee asked how everything was we expressed how we were unhappy no apology just looked away! Here’s our tickets btw so maybe someone can reach out.

Okay, ordering a cheeseburger at a traditional historical Mexican restaurant has got to be sacrilegious at some level, if you believe in that sort of thing? But after discussing the menu with the waitress it was determined that the cheeseburger would be a good pick, and it was. Fresh made hamburger, hand made patty, topped with avocado, bacon, and ghost cheese made for a delicious, juicy, lunch. It was more than I can eat and I can eat a lot. The chips and salsa (also good) were the only things Mexican about my meal, but I didn't really care, all was good. Beer and wine only at this establishment, they do have wine Margaritas but that's not really my thing. See you next time I'm in town.
