I recently had a disappointing experience at Starbucks on W Ann Road while trying to study. A Starbucks employee approached me and informed me that I had to purchase something to stay, as they had changed their policy. While I understand that businesses have the right to enforce rules, I’ve always appreciated Starbucks as a welcoming place for students and remote workers.
If this is truly a new policy, it feels exclusionary and goes against the sense of community Starbucks has promoted for years. Not everyone who visits is there to buy coffee—some of us come for the environment, to focus, or to work quietly. If this policy is strictly enforced, it would be helpful to see clear signage so customers aren’t caught off guard.
I’ve always been a loyal Starbucks customer, but this experience makes me reconsider where I choose to study in the future. Hopefully, the company will reconsider how this impacts...
