The good news is that the beef is good. There was supposed to be beef short ribs, chicken and beef in the combo. The beef was excellent, there was no chicken and the beef short ribs were not short ribs, they were flanken style. Short ribs have bones about two inches long and develop great flavor and texture. Flanken style have bones about 3/8" long and can be cooked like a steak. I wondered how they could keep up with demand. I remember beef ribs in three styles: plate, English and flanken.
I will go back for the beef, but not for the flanken. Since I didn't get any chicken in the combo, I won't be going back for that. It also had warm macaroni salad. I have been ill from bad mayonaise more times then I can count in Las Vegas. I tasted it, it was almost not warm in the center, so it must have warmed up on the 1.1 mile drive home. I ate it first and I am hoping for the best.
The popcorn chicken had a chili next to it in the menu. I asked about it. I think she said it wasn't too hot, I think. (more on the language barrier later). She asked if I wanted normal, I think. I said yes and what I got was probably more than most people might like. The spice was okay, but the person cutting up the chicken left in the gristle and cartilage. Nearly every other bite had something I needed to spit out. It had little slices of green chili and it also had those tiny red chilis broken (I think they are called either bird or Thai chilis). It was well prepared, but as far as taste, not for me.
Food is great these days. In the fall of 1978 I ate a taco for the first time and that spring I tasted pineapple for the first time.
Language barrier. It seemed like the tiny young lady understood everything I said and she was very eager to provide good service. That means much to me. Unfortunately, I could not reciprocate. She was not very loud and had a tiny voice. As men get older, we lose our ability to hear higher frequencies. Add in her accent, and I could understand very little. I asked if she said salad and she said, "no. short rib." My ancestors went through a similar process when they arrived from Europe.
I appreciate her effort and give her an A+.
Time permitting, I would go back for the beef. There used to be a recipe for chicken Katsu on the back of the Kikkoman Panko Bread crumb box. It is probably on the Kikkoman website.
Here is what I recall since the back of the box I cutout is in a storage unit:
dredge chicken in flour dredge chicken in egg roll chicken around in bread crumbs
there maybe spices involve on the chicken, the flour, the egg or the bread crumbs
probably best to find a recipe Kikkoman sells the sauce in bottles, but you can find recipes for that as well
I would give a 4.5, but that...
Read moreI only wish someone had warned me about this place. Maybe the near-empty dining room should have been the first sign — a silent warning for what I was about to experience. I walked in around lunchtime, hoping to grab something quick. I ordered two spam musubi, thinking they'd be the fastest thing they could whip up. After all, I only had thirty minutes for lunch. I sat and waited, watching the clock, watching the door. Two other customers strolled in after me, ordered, and joined the growing sense of impatience in the air. Minutes dragged by. Ten... fifteen... twenty. Still, no food. Finally, my order was ready — but strangely, it was handed to me at the exact same time as one of the women who had arrived after me. I can't help but believe my food had been sitting there, growing colder by the minute, as they waited to group our orders together for no apparent reason. We weren’t even together. With only four minutes left of my lunch break, I rushed back to work, hoping the wait would be worth it. Two bites in, I knew it wasn’t. The spam musubi were bland, barely warm, and desperately lacking the rich, sweet-savory flavor that makes a good musubi memorable. There was hardly any sauce, and when I did happen upon a sauced spot, it was so faint it barely registered. It was, at best, mediocre — and that’s being generous considering the time I wasted. If you still decide to try this place, do yourself a favor: order at least 30 minutes ahead... and brace yourself for a whole lot of disappointment. The only saving grace? They had a good variety of Hawaiian Sun flavors. But trust me — that's not enough to...

Ok, so everyone knows around town some places are downright awesome, your reminded of being on the islands. Some places well they are just not good.Highly lacking, taste buds disappointed, no xmas this year type disappointment. Well this place is far from that.
Upon entering was greeted with wonderful customer service. Asked if there were any questions re: the menu. There is so much to pick from, however no questions - only hunger and how quick will it be done.
Opted for the Loco Moco, Hamburger Steak, and Malasadas plus it came with free fried wontons as the order passed a certain amount. I was very pleased. The mac salad lulled me and soothed my spirit. And as simple as it sounds these Malasadas almost replicas of eating it homemade with basic pillsbury biscuit dough deep fried and rolled with sugar were just the right touch of happiness in a container.
Interior is several table and chair arrangements. Everything is spaced for Covid Safety. Staff was wearing masks as well. Interior was clean. There are large menus that adorn the wall, along with handhelds at the counter.
Would recommend - Was truly not expecting the flavors that we had that night. Even to the point came back the very next day and ordered other items which didnt disappoint as well. They are currently offering specials. If your order totals certain amounts you receive additional...
