We decided to drop by this standby after we had lunch at HK City BBQ up the road.

We got 1 lb of roast pork belly (xiu yok) for $16/lb which is a great price for the quality of meat. To ensure the skin is crispy upon reheat DO NOT MICROWAVE. You'll make the crispy skin chewy (ruined).

Air fry for 6 mins total at 390 F. At 4 mins, pull the pork meat out, leave the skin bits in. Air fry another 2 mins, retrieve the crispy skin, serve.

This assumes from fridge, not freezer.

We also bought: 2x Zhongzi (traditional sticky rice filled with pork chunks, an egg yolk and other tasty stuff) 2x Jin-dui seseme balls (jima chu) filled with a sweet bean paste for dessert or snack with tea.

The zhongzi were amazingly great! Most commercial zhongzi skimp on the ingredients. Not these.

There were generous amounts of lean roast pork 1"x1"x0.6" cubes + a whole egg yolk. Every bite was delicious bcs the flavor from the ingredients blended together. We each had 1 pc for brunch. At $4.80/pc, I would rather have this zhongzi for breakfast over a McD breakfast now at $8.69 any day. There's no comparison the enjoyment eating one of these vs McMuffin & hash brown.

This is the quality like when my grandma used to make zhongzi from scratch for the family, not skimping on the fillings. Wow! I plan to buy a dozen of the pork filled ones next time, stick them in the freezer.

Jin-dui These sesame balls are 2x as big as the typical variety served as dimsum. They taste like jin-dui. We cut 1 in 1/2 to have with afternoon tea at home.

$1/pc, much cheaper than a donut and quite a change.

We got all of the above for...

Gou Lou Cheong BBQ is the best place I have found in Florida for authentic Chinese BBQ. It isn't set up as a dine in restaurant though so go there intending to take out. They are pretty much set up as a classic Chinese bbq shop with the cooked items on display behind glass at the butcher counter and a smaller counter for payment. The two items I come for are the Crispy Pork and the Honey BBQ Pork, but they do have various other items like duck and cuttlefish (there is also various frozen dim sum that can be purchased). Get there early for the crispy pork (it tends to sell out) and it will be at its crispiest deliciousness. Their Honey BBQ Pork is the only kind from a restaurant that my mother liked, that she hadn't made herself (and hers was amazing). One thing to keep in mind, generally you'll be given a choice between fatty and lean pork, so ask to see what they mean if you aren't sure. They only take cash or Zelle, so be prepared for that. Some days the line can be quite long even though the staff are amazingly quick and efficient. Well...

I h a very been eating cantonese-style bbq for 60 years now. Being from Philadelphia there are numerous restaurants & takeouts in Chinatown that sell super bbq duck, pork & other savory items. I traveled to Chinatown new york hundreds of times for outstanding bbq. But lo & behold, I now live in Miami Lakes so my quest began 2 years ago to see if there is an authentic cantonese-style bbq store in south Florida. Well today I founded it, nestled in a strip shipping center. Small, cramped, busy & the "real thing"! Family-run, cash or Zelle accepted, no nonsense, place your order & wait. The key here is to get there early, they open at 11am & may sell out of the prized ducks & fatty crispy pork by midday! I purchased a while duck at $36, 2 lb of fatty crispy pork at $16 lb, lb of honey baked pork at $16 & a large order of sautéed cabbage at $6. They do have a few more offerings but these are the best, I think. The fatty, crispy pork was the best I've ever eaten, the duck was juicy, crispy & included dipping sauces....

This place keeps showing up as a place to try. I decided to see what the fuzz was all about. It is not a restaurant as in the way we are used too. It's a take out place. It is small inside and it gets crowded. You don't want to eat inside. There are a few chairs inside but they are for waiting, not eating. The waiting is not long. The menu is posted on a wall and there is a counter where you can view some of the things the place has. The food is sold by the pound and it's cash only here. I read some of the reviews. They all recommended the crispy pork. I got some and lived it. It was crispy. The honey roasted pork, I thin that is what I got. I liked too and I got other things that I can't name now. It's a great place to try new things. The service is efficient. I suggest you know what you want before stepping up to the counter. The counter moves fast.
