We were very disappointed with our dinner at Cypriana Maple Lawn after reading the good reviews and hearing so many good things about the Baltimore Cypriana restaurant with chef Maria Kaimakis.
To begin with, we were seated at 6:30 pm at a table facing the window and the full glare of the setting sun, despite the fact that the restaurant was only about one-third full and there were plenty of empty tables not in the line of the sun glare. We eventually asked to be moved to another table and were accommodated.
Then, the food. We ordered, to share, four "mezzedes," or small plates. Two of the plates were minuscule: the Halloumi cheese and Grilled Portobello mushrooms, each priced at $16! The other two small plates (Moussaka for $16 and Mougendra for $14) were more reasonably portioned but sadly, all four mezzedes were bland and unoriginal. Bad value all around, given the high prices and insipid flavors.
For dessert, we thought we'd share the gluten free chocolate mousse with berries. The server brought us a tiny portion of mousse in a large wine glass with ONE raspberry on top and a few mint leaves. The menu should have read "chocolate mousse with Berry." Furthermore, the mousse was gritty and tasted like generic grocery store chocolate pudding. Although we told the server we would share this dessert, we were brought only one spoon.
We cannot recommend Cypriana Maple Lawn and will not be going back there...
Read moreI had high hopes for this spot during Restaurant Week, but it ended up being one of the more disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in a while. The food was bland across the board. Everything needed more salt, pepper, and a bright touch of lemon just to wake it up. I eat out at a lot of restaurants and almost never have to reach for a salt and pepper shaker, so the fact that I did here was already a red flag.
The Restaurant Week offer was $45 for unlimited mezzes, which sounded great on paper. In reality, the portions were tiny and the selection wasn’t very appealing. I left feeling like the value just wasn’t there, especially compared to other Restaurant Week menus around town.
The atmosphere didn’t help either. At 8pm on a Wednesday night there were only about ten people in the entire place, which should have meant quick service, but it was actually very slow. The combination of bland food, small portions, uninspired selection, and lackluster service makes it hard to find anything redeeming about the experience. My waiter was pretty good so I won’t knock her but I’ll knock the cooks in the back.
Overall, I wouldn’t come back and I wouldn’t recommend it to friends. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that deliver much better flavor, value, and...
Read moreThis was the first visit for our group on a weekday evening. Ample parking is located in the back and very easy to enter through the lobby area. Parking is ample and background Mediterranean music was lovely to listen to. Cponversations could be easily managed. Our young server was energetic and answered questions politely and helpful in arranging separate checks for our group of 12. Dinner selections were varied, salads were very generous and the ingredients with herbs were very fresh and appreciated. There are small to large plated items so depending on how hungry you are, you have options. Their Spinach pie seemed to be a big hit and was delicious. I had the Grilled Portobello Mushrooms which were huge and grilled to just the right tenderness with a nice balance of sweet and tartness with their balsamic reduction, the Cyprus fries were done to just the right degree of crispness and lightly seasoned.
Everyone enjoyed their meals. Flavors and sauces went well with each dish. Prices may be a bit on the higher side but you can adapt with your selections. I wish they served lunch but for now they are serving dinner and happy hour period is on weekdays between 4-6pm. I would love to return with my husband for a...
