After a long day chaperoning students through the national mall, I thought I was going to the Tropical Smoothie Cafe for a refreshing pick-me-up before night festivities at the gym. I pulled close to the door and saw beside it “Love Life Cafe.” Although I was ready to dismiss it, thinking, “cute name,” the idea of an iced coffee felt appealing. My eye traveled left and I saw a poster advertising lemonades and fresh pressed juices — and the sticker indicating the whole shebang was owned by a black woman. Sold, let’s give it a try!
It’s immediately apparent upon walking in that the designer of the space knows how to maximize a small space and put thought into little conveniences (purse hooks on the wall where smaller tables for two maybe would be overwhelmed otherwise). Stylistically, it isn’t dramatically far from what you’d expect from a cafe but the standout is the service and the product. Although I’m an açaí bowl lover and their display of toasts was tempting, I wasn’t ready for a meal before the gym. The gentleman who greeted me asked if I’d like recommendations and I acquiesced. Lucky me, one of those came with a free sample of the “Eye See Sunshine” juice, made fresh earlier that day. It was a winner and I walked out with 4 juices — 2 hydro coco’s (my boyfriend would’ve died to see me without one for him too) and the Liver Lover (beet!!!). I stayed true to my heart’s desire and got the strawberry rose lemonade and sat in one of the cozier chairs while it was made fresh. It was deliciously tart (I’m not a fan of sweet but he gave it with the offer to add any sugar or more flavour if I wasn’t totally satisfied) and even looked much like one of the drinks I realized was in the poster.
I haven’t addressed the art, which is also a beautiful touch and currently featuring portraits and at least one Basquiat homage that has held my eye.
I’ll definitely be...
Read moreI love th is place and this is my first visit. I happened to walk in on a whim. The owner happened to be in grabbing a bite herself unbeknownst to me. I was immediately greeted by the two ladies behind the counter who seemed genuinely happy to see me walk in. I should also probably mentioned I was giving very much help me I'm homeless vibes since I hadn't planned on going into any establishments just grabbing a coffee at a drive thru. Usually people would pay you no mind take your money and barely speak. This was the complete opposite experience. I left with a hand written thank you note a smile on my face and a stomach very pleased.
VIBES This place is very artsy, modern and hip in my opinion. There is beautiful art covering the walls which will have you staring in awe. The color scheme is very peaceful and inviting. There are a couple items from the menu on display in case you are unsure. They sell merchandise and host social events for the community and creatives.
FOOD Since this was my first visit I wanted to try something familiar for met drink. I went with he white chocolate lavender latte, a mix up one of the baristas made up. I choose the peanut butter and jelly toast with fresh fruit toppings. When I mean I was completely shocked and surprised, I had never thought to try this concoction as a breakfast option but I can never go back now. It is officially in my top 5 breakfast options.
FINAL THOUGHTS I highly recommend you give this place a try even if you have to take a little drive. I am so glad I wandered in I am making this a place to go every week. I want to support this place so that it never leaves. The pic do this spot no justice you have to see it and experience it...
Read moreIt's been awhile since I've stopped by but I was having a really bad morning and as I was driving home I looked to my right and saw Love Live and thought to myself let me treat myself. They staff greeted me with smiles and energy, and I wish I had been in the mindset at the beginning to do the same, but I was in my head space. I looked at the menu and remembered my favorite part about this place are the unique flavors they created for your drinks and wanted to find something unique. I saw Spiced Mango on the menu and had to ask about it because it really peaked my interest. Ri (lovely staff member) spoke to us (my husband and I) about this unique flavor and how it works well with either coffee or lemonade. My husband, being a fan of spicy drinks, asked if he could have it as a lemonade and as for myself I was still undecided but told Ri my usual go to flavor. I told her I wanted to try something just a little different and she recommended a white mocha praline latte that she can create. I must say when my husband and I both took a sip of our drinks, we were very happy. I left with a smile and told Ri, we'll be back for the same drinks. My husband loved his Spicy Mango Lemonade and if you love a little spice in your drink I...
