Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is cozy and the food was excellent. They were very busy when we got there as it was PJ day. So we did have to wait a little while which was fine. It gave us a chance to browse their gift shop. They have a lot of really neat knick knacks and for those who like garden gnomes... They have those too. My oldest daughter and I had the bratwurst with curried ketchup and bread with German potato salad and my youngest daughter had their pork chop meal. Both selections were excellent choices and we were happy with the taste, texture and serving size. My youngest daughter did not care for the German potato salad due to the vinegar taste, which was fine because I liked it and found it to be a welcome change from the store bought version. I traded her my bread for her potato salad and me and my oldest daughter split it between us. Our waitress was one of the owners, and she was a delight to have as a server. We also bought some desserts to go, I got the German chocolate cake. It was very rich and very tasty. To be honest, its the best I have ever had and I love cake so I have had a lot in my 42 years of life. My girls got a few different desserts of which I don't remember what they were. I was assured however, that they are to die for and I should try them at my earliest convenience. You have the option of buying a slice or the entire cake for those who are interested. They also have a selection of cookies which I have in the past, bought and found to be very delicious as well. I would recommend Heidelberg Haus to anyone looking for genuine German food. They really care about how their food tastes and looks and it is family owned which means they really want to ensure that your visit with them goes above and beyond what you would experience in a franchise restaurant. 5 stars for atmosphere, 5 stars for food and presentation, 5 stars for service, and 5 stars for meal prices. Great job Heidelberg Haus! You are definitely a breath of fresh air to anyone looking for a good meal and...
Read moreUnquestionably, the food is good, especially the cakes. The servers are friendly, but the service is terrible. We went there around 2:30pm, so was expecting the lunch crowd had gone and it really wasn't busy at all.
The 2 or 3 servers buzz around doing stuff in the back, or at the register, but leave people waiting for service at tables and counters.
There seems to be no idea that serving customers should be the priority and admin work can be done when time permits, even if that means after closing.
We sat there for 15 minutes with every server walking past us and saying things like "I'll be right with you" on the way past, to go off into the kitchen, then wander off somewhere else. We weren't even asked if we wanted a drink.
One server made a sarcastic remark to another customer who went behind the counter himself to grab the coffee pot because he was tired of waiting, instead of realising he did it because of poor service.
This place could be great if the staff were better trained or managed at all.
Avoid like the plague at any time that might be remotely busy, or expect a 10 minute wait, just to pay for something at the register.
The staff are friendly and I don't know if there's internal feuding between them, where they wait for each other to their job, but for each to do anything else to avoid serving customers is about as bad as it can get in the service industry.
We've been there many times over the years; at first because we love German food and the place was run well, but now, only because the cakes and pastries are authentic, but the service has taken longer and gotten worse and worse, where we've determined to only go there to shop and expect a long wait at...

My wife and I love stopping by this intriguing little restaurant for a bite. This place is full of eclectic bric-a-brac, giving it a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels more like dining in a quirky German flea market than a traditional restaurant. The seating is scattered throughout the space, with tables tucked away in cozy corners and even a private room—making it an intimate and unique dining experience. The decor is quite something, with gnomes, postcards, and other quirky items available for purchase. After passing by this place for over 40 years, I’m so glad I finally decided to stop in. The menu is small but mighty, offering authentic German dishes that don’t disappoint. I opted for the Weisswurst—a Bavarian specialty (Menu #14). This mild, boiled white sausage came with potato salad, bread, and butter. While the sausage was indeed mild, I kicked it up a notch with some table-side mustard, and it was delicious! My wife chose the Currywurst—a pan-fried knockwurst with curry ketchup, potato salad, bread, and butter. I had a taste, and it was simply wonderful. The restaurant, which has been around since 1968, serves up good, simple German food with great, friendly service in a delightfully odd setting. After our meal, we took a moment to explore the shop and picked up a few treats to take home: a Bavarian pretzel, apple strudel, a piece of German chocolate cake, and a loaf of bread. All of this came to just $34.44—what a bargain!
Don’t make the same mistake I did by passing this place by for 40+ years. Trust me, you’ll regret it! I’ll definitely...
