This place is a hidden Lawrence gem. First and foremost, the two people who are always in there working hard (maybe a father/daughter duo?) are probably the most kind people I have ever met. They make me smile every time I go with their generosity.
All of the food I’ve tried is absolutely delicious. The falafel is unlike any I’ve ever tried. They make them by hand, each batch fried fresh for you. An order of six is about three bucks which is a great deal! I get a side of tahini sauce to go with it.
The bowls are an amazing deal. I’ve gotten the lamb and beef combo, with a base of half hummus and half rice. You have to try the sumac onions. The spice completely changes the onion flavor and keeps you going back for more. My friend who doesn’t even like onions gave it a shot and liked it! I love their cilantro and jalapeño sauce, tzatziki, and garlic sauce. My friend also really loved the harissa, which is very spicy but flavorful! They will give you pita with your bowl if you ask! No charge. I’ve also tried their eggplant salad which is bursting with flavor, and has a tiny bit of a spicy kick. A side of the eggplant salad was $1.99, and they make sure to fill the bowl.
You cannot beat their prices. If you get a bowl or wrap with a side, they throw in a free fountain drink. The sides range from $2-3 depending on what you get.
Seating is limited to a large community farm table. However, there’s never been a time that I’ve gone in there and was unable to stay and eat. Most people grab and go, but there’s still the option to stay and enjoy. I’m pretty sure the majority of their business is regulars who come in for their lunch and get back to work quickly.
This is one of those Unmistakably Lawrence diamonds in the rough. Yes, it’s a gas station but think of that as a convenience, not a downfall. I routinely remind myself to incorporate them in to my rotation of the days I get lunch or dinner out. Go in there today and leave with a happy heart and a...
Read moreWOW! Simply wow. My partner and I were driving through town and looking for a healthy lunch. We found this place through the reviews and it did not disappoint. The fact that it is located in a gas station could tempt one to be suspicious of the quality, but don’t let that scare you away! The food that is served inside is an oasis of freshness and goodness.
The meal surpassed my expectations. I am a connoisseur of shawarma and seek it out wherever I travel so I was curious to see how this rendition would taste. The Fresh Mediterranean Co certainly didn’t disappoint for a real lover of this kind of cuisine. My chicken was succulent and well-flavored. The woman who helped me loaded up my bowl with sauces and let me split the base of my bowl between rice, greens, and hummus. The end product was a bowl exploding with flavor. The process of making the bowl was like Chipotle, you walk down a line and get to choose what you’d like to have added into your bowl (if you order one of those). My partner got a falafel sandwich and he (who was skeptical of The Fresh Mediterranean Co being in a gas station in the first place) said we would have to stop back in on our way back. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. The pricing was also very reasonable. I wish we had this...
Read moreThis is a gas station and a little restaurant inside. If you are looking for great food, especially Mediterranean food, this is the place. The owner is always there and always supper nice. If you aren't picky and don't know what to try then ask some staff, because that's what we always did and whatever they suggested we ate and love. It's clean and staff is very nice. Again this isn't a fancy restaurant as it's a gas station, but they have plenty of seating and is the best restaurant inside a gas station I've ever seen to and I've been to many across this country. I would also say it's not just my favorite food in Lawrence, but is the best Mediterranean food. I go here all the time. I eat there and get it to go and they are super fast. Also, the first time I went there was because my car broke down and I was luck to get it in the parking lot. My car needed to be moved to at least a parking spot so it wasn't in the entrance and two men from the store came out to help me move it and try to fix it. They were super busy with customers, yet they helped me anyways. I have always been so grateful for that and at the same time got to find my favorite restaurant in Lawrence. I highly suggest this...
