Riverwatch is a unique location for a restaurant. It appears to be sitting on a barge on the banks of the Ohio river. Large columns on the side appear to be able to move the structure up or down depending on the depth of the water.
I did not know what to expect for the quality of the meals when entering the restaurant. It is very informal. Large bugs were holding on to the plastic on the exterior side of the dining room. The floor is concrete and the interior is very informal.
The service was very good. Our server answered questions, took our orders, and kept the iced tea glasses filled which we appreciated after walking a lot before lunch.
I did not ask about availability of wine options and did not see many options on the regular menu although there were a variety of mixed drinks. There is a bar there as well behind another door. Anyone wanting more wine options to accompany a meal should ask; it is probably available. There was a wide selection of beer and, just a hunch, the restaurant generally sells a lot more beer than wine and they know their market's preferences.
Having grown up in New England, I love lobster in a variety of dishes. A lobster sandwich with fresh lobster is a great meal and typically quite expensive when filled with fresh lobster. There was a lobster sandwich on the menu and I ordered it.
It was lobster salad with a mayonnaise base. There was not much of a lobster flavor in the wrap, probably due to the dressing, and the color of the lobster would indicate it may not have been fresh. I did not ask and it was a large sandwich and tasted good in any event. It was much less expensive (about $12.00 in this instance) than recent lobster sandwiches I have had on the East Coast in recent weeks and did not have the same flavor but was still a good option for lunch.
My dining companion had the coconut shrimp. She described it as "pretty good" but contained more breading than shrimp.
My other dining companion had a small salad and it was fresh and...
Read moreRiverwatch in Lawrenceburg is hands-down one of my favorite places to eat, and it deserves every bit of a 5-star rating! From the moment you step in, you’re welcomed by a laid-back, beachy atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re on a mini-vacation, even if you’re just stopping by for lunch or dinner. The views of the water and the open-air style of the restaurant add to the coastal vibe perfectly, making it such a relaxing and fun spot to unwind.
The menu is a bit on the pricier side, but let me tell you, it’s worth every penny. The quality and flavors of the dishes are consistently excellent. I always order the coconut shrimp — it is amazing! Perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and paired with a delicious dipping sauce that pulls everything together. It’s easily the best coconut shrimp I’ve ever had, and I look forward to it every single time.
Beyond the food, the service is always friendly and attentive. The staff is upbeat and helpful, and they make sure you have everything you need without being overbearing.
Riverwatch is the kind of place where you can kick back with a cold drink, enjoy great company, and dig into some fantastic food while soaking up the relaxed riverfront vibe. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s absolutely worth a stop....

I live in town but took an out of town friend there for his birthday. Even though it was busy, when my friend asked for a table with a great view of the water, the hostess was so nice and helpful and made it happen. We were tucked away on the side of the restaurant with a breeze from the fans and a perfect view of the river.
While waiting for our table, we sat at the bar and soaked up the atmosphere, enjoying tasty tiki drinks. Though the frozen strawberry margarita was good, the coconut pineapple one was definitely better.
I like big shrimp, and I cannot lie - so the shrimp cocktail was perfect - right down to the spice level in the cocktail sauce. Not too ketchupy, not too horse radishy.
My friend had the grouper, I ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi, and we both ordered sweet potato fries.
Though both dishes were fine, I've heard such good things about their burgers, that's likely what I'll order next time.
Our waitress (Kaley?) was fantastic - a great balance between fun, knowledgeable, attentive, and giving us space. We never felt rushed or neglected. That's a great talent for a food service professional to have.
Overall, it was a lovely experience, and we enjoyed it so much we were the last...
